Ms. Heissel completed her student teaching at Nodland Elementary School, in a Kindergarten classroom, in the fall of the 2019-2020 school year. During this time, I observed on multiple occasions Hannah providing hands-on learning experiences, maintaining a positive learning environment, and implementing best practices in all content areas. Hannah was an active participant during our building-wide professional development. On many occasions, she was observed taking her learning back to her classroom for immediate implementation. She is a fast learner and a reflective educator. She quickly became acclimated with the structure of our literacy block, providing small-group, skills-based instruction, to a variety of groups. She also planned intentional activities for students to complete during independent work times. Ms, Heissel was also observed incorporating cooperative learning structures into her daily lessons. Ms. Heissel’s classroom management style is fair and consistent. She recognizes and reinforces positive behaviors in the moment. When students choose to not follow her expectations, she approaches those situations with care, while always maintaining the dignity and respect of each student. Overall, I believe Hannah has the skill-set that is necessary to positively impact students and student achievement. Her qualities will allow her to become an asset to any school.
