A-2
The MacBAT IV features intrinsically-safe explosion-proof housing design. It should
be used in accordance with the requirements of this documentation and the
conditions specified in the ATEX certificate.
For internal supplying the MacBAT IV, only batteries specified in technical data table
must be used, see section: TECHNICAL DATA AND OPERATING CONDITIONS on page
B-4.
The enclosure of the product is made from light metal alloy. If the product is used in
Zone 0, it must be protected against impact and friction.
The manufacturer's declaration of the IP65 housing tightness class will be valid only
if cables with appropriate diameters for the cable bushings are used, the bushings
are properly tightened, and ensuring proper placement of gasket and tightening the
housing cover to the device casing.
For the connection of external circuits is required to use cables with circular cross-
section and an external diameter adequate to the internal diameter of used cable
gland.
A-3
The unit should not be installed in the vicinity of strong electromagnetic fields.
Only work of the unit with exact serial number on the name plate on the cover and electronic
name plate (displayed on LCD) is allowed.
This documentation applies to MacBAT IV devices that meet and that are excluded from the
requirements of the Measuring Instruments Directive 2014/32/UE of European Parliament
and Council (MID), which apply to volume conversion devices intended for residential,
commercial and light industrial use.
Later in the documentation the shortcut MID will be used, in meaning the Measuring
Instruments Directive 2014/32/UE of European Parliament and Council.
The MacBAT IV to which apply the MID, on the name plate, next to the CE sign has the
supplementary metrology marking consists of: capital letter “M” followed by last two digits of
the year of its affixing, surrounded by a rectangle.
A-4
According to MID directive it is permissible to use terminal boxes, surge suppressors and
Zener barriers in systems of measurement circuits. It is required that these components were
designed for sealing.
The device needs to be grounded. Grounding need to be done only at one point of
device. If MacBAT IV is mounted directly on grounded pipeline and galvanic
connection between pipeline and device is provided, it is forbidden to connect extra
grounding of unit.
To connect MacBAT IV with gas meter or transducer it is necessary to use cables appropriate
with used in gas meter/ transducer explosion-proof cable glands. Before installing always
refer to the technical documentation of gas meter/transducer, which should contain a detailed
information about conditions and methods of installation, types of wires etc.
A-5
Connection of measurement circuits LF, HF and signalization:
The intrinsically safe circuits used in MacBAT IV shall meet all conditions for intrinsically
safe circuits specified in EN 60079-14, and in particular:
For intrinsically safe measuring circuits connect cables with separated two wires or use
multi-core type A or type B cables according to point 12.2.2.8 of directive EN 60079-14.
▪ Cables and wiring of intrinsically safe circuits must be carried out separately from the cables and wires of
non-intrinsically safe circuits.
▪ Cables and wiring of intrinsically safe circuits should be permanently mounted and protected from the
possibility of mechanical damage.
▪ Connect the cable shield to the housing gland. This way grounding of the cable shield of intrinsically safe
circuits will occur at one point – next to MacBAT IV device. During using measuring transducers cable
shield should be insulated.
A-6
In accordance with the certificate FTZU 15 ATEX 0116X usage conditions for MacBAT IV are following:
MacBAT IV is meant to be used for measurement of quantity and flow of the gas, using signals from
gas meter sensors, temperature of gas measured by external sensor and pressure of gas measured by built-
in sensor (an external pressure sensor is available as an option). Device is supplied from internal battery,
but it can be also powered by external, certified power supply with parameters that meet the requirements
listed in further part of this document. Transmission with external devices can be realized via infrared
interface (IEC 62056-21) or cable connection in RS-485 standard by using devices with parameters which
meet requirements presented in table below.

B-1
Gas volume conversion device MacBAT IV is a device used for measurements of gas volume at base
conditions* and energy. It is designed to be used at gas measuring stations and pressure reduction-
measuring stations. It can cooperate with rotor and turbine gas meters.
The measurement is based on counting the amount of pulses from reed LF or high frequency HF sensor
mounted in the head of the gas meter. With built-in sensors it measures pressure and temperature of gas.

*1–range of indications from 0.9 bar to p1max
*2 -range of indications from 0.9 bar to p1 max
*3 -range of indications to atmospheric pressure
*4– values of errors referred to correct values of temperature, expressed in [K]
Devices with sensors of low gauge pressure (ranges up to 1.0bar) show a significant effect of
mechanical stress on the indication of the pressure p2. In order to achieve the declared accuracy,
after installation of the device on the target location, it is necessary to perform zeroing of indications.
Before placing an order for non-standard ranges of measurements, confirm the feasibility with a
consultant of PLUM company.
B-8
▪ The measurement is based on counting the number of pulses from reed LF sensor or NAMUR HF
sensor, placed in the head of the gas meter.
▪ Device converts the counted gas volume at measurement conditions into volume at base conditions
(EN 12405-1:2005+A2:2010) and using gas pre-set parameters computes value of energy counter
(EN 12405-2:2012).
▪ Beside measurements and computation of current parameters, device also archives chosen
parameters and information about registered alarm states – available for later readout.
▪ The incorporated display and keyboard enable to monitor current measurement data, peak values
and alarms as well as to adjust the basic operating parameters, such as time and date, measurement
input limits, transmission parameters, and the like. Any modification of parameters both via
transmission and using the keyboard requires user authorisation.
▪ MacBAT IV is device powered by internal battery, but it also can be powered by external power
supply. In standard version, at typical exploitation conditions (1-2 readout per month) 1 piece of
battery allowsup to five years of lifetime.
B-9
▪ Device has functions, which allow to use it in control and telemetry systems. During using this
features it is necessary to connect applicable type of AC power adapter, which provide separation of
intrinsically safe circuits and allows to power by external supply of device. AC power adapter is an
optional accessory.

MacBAT IV device operates by default in measurement-calculation cycle:
▪ In next step, basing on the current values of pressure DP:16 (p1), temperature DP:17 (t) and
programmed gas parameters, unit calculates conversion factor DP:34 (C) and then increment of
volume at base conditions DP:9 (dVb) = dVm·C and flow DP:5 (Qb) = Qm·C. Simultaneously
there are calculated values of: DP:12 (dE), DP:13 (dM), DP:7 (QE), DP:8 (QM).
B-12
During typical exploitation of the device, depending on the appearance of alarm situation, it can operate
either in normal state or in emergency state. All parameters listed before are active in both states of
device operation (calculation of temporary values of flows and counters increments).
If the unit operates in normal state, all calculated increments are added up to main counters („n” - new
value of parameter, „p” - value from previous calculation cycle):
(DP:0)Vbn (DP:0)=Vbp+dVb
(DP:3)En (DP:3)=Ep+dE
(DP:4)Mn (DP:4)=Mp+dM
B-13
If the unit operates in emergency state, all calculated increments are added up to emergency
counters:
(DP:255) Vben=Vbep+dVb
(DP:256) Een=Eep+dE
(DP:257) Men=Mep+dM
Emergency state of MacBAT IV is active as long as an alarm from a system group alarms is active–see
alarm descriptions in ZD table in document „MacBATIVDatastructure”. Information about active system
alarms is available from devices menu. Description of active alarms is in section EVENTS AND ALARMS on
page F-36.

Wires must be prepared according to instruction presented below. Shielding of the power supply wire
should be insulated at the device point and grounded at the power supply point. Depending on glands type
please follow proper steps:
Assembly manual and preparation of the wires for cable glands: 1 – ending sleeves; 2 – wires, 3 – shielding,
4 – cable, 5 – tightening insert, 6 – screw cap, 7 - conical ring.

Pulse inputs: LF, HF, tamper switch, input of signaling
NAMUR. Wires:
• LIYCY 2 x 0,25 – 0,5 mm2
• LIYCY 2 x 0,25 – 0,5 mm2
Maximum length 10m
Due to the diameter of cable gland and connection clamp, use multi-conductor cables with cross-section
from 0.25 to 0.75 mm2. Detailed specification of wires is presented in section RECOMMENDED WIRES on
page C-10.
The manufacturer's declaration of the IP65 housing tightness class will be valid, only
if cables with appropriate diameters of the cable glands are used, the glands are
properly tightened and ensuring proper placement of sealing and tightening the
housing cover to the device casing.
C-11
In first step, connect MacBAT IV pulse inputs with gas meter LF and HF pulses outputs. Device can
operate with gas meters that have weight of LF pulses in range: from 0.001 up to 10 m3/pulse. LF transmitter
needs to be reed type (potential-free connector). MacBAT IV is equipped with input, which verifies operating
state of gas meter reed control contact – a reed type connector, which is normally closed. Any sort of
manipulations with gas meter head (like influence with strong magnetic field or disconnection of plug from
pulses transmitter) cause break in control circuit and generation of alarm in MacBAT IV. If gas meter is not
equipped with tamper switch– it’s input on unit terminal strip must be short-circuited.
Group of terminals 7÷ 16 is used for connection external power supply and separated transmission
circuits in standard RS-485.
Group of terminals 27, 29÷ 36 is used for connection intrinsically safe signalization circuits.
Signalization inputs supports up to 6circuits with potential-free connectors (reed type connector).
After connection of measurement inputs, configure desired parameters, which are: time,
gas composition, constants of algorithm and transmission parameters. Descriptions of
this procedures are in further part of this manual.

Every MacBAT IV unit is equipped with platinum temperature sensor Pt100/A/4/-40/+65, marking
CT3-BW – available in 2 types:with constant length „80” and with adjustable length „140,160,180” – see
figures below. Every temperature sensor is verified in manufacturer’s laboratory in order to meet
requirements of class A standards.
Technical data:
Mounting of temperature sensor with the usage of supplied connector provides protection against
penetration of moisture, liquids and dust into the thermometer sleeve. This protection meets
the requirements of the degree of protection IP54 in accordance with EN 60529.
C-14
Temperature sensor CT3-BW must always be inside sealed thermometer sleeve when it is
mounted in gas pipeline. Mounting of CT3 sensor directly into gas pipeline is forbidden.
Only temperature sensors that have serial number, given on it’s name plate, identical like the one
presented on device display are allowed to operate (see section NAME PLATE, DISPLAY). CT3 sensor
serial number is also presented in MacBAT IV DP table, parameter DP:216 (t s/n). Name plate of the
sensor isaffixed to the cable and secured by additional foil jacket. Secure seal against damage druring
installation and operation of device.
C-15
C-16
External power supply of device should be connected to terminals 14,16 – according to indications on
wiring diagram. Parameters of power supply are described as technical data in this documentation.
Used cables must meet requirements for type B cables in accordance with standard EN 60079-14 – in
particular, wire insulation should withstand the test voltage 500V AC and cannot be thinner than 0.1 mm (for
insulation of polyethylene 0.2 mm).
C-17
The transmission interface INT-S3 (-S3/N) is used to read data from the
data loggers or battery converters provided with a transmission port RS485 in
stationary telemetry systems. Data can be read into a computer equipped with
serial port standard RS485. Transmission interface contains intrinsically safe
circuits and allow to data readout from devices in explosion-hazard zone.
Additionally interface provides separation of the two binary signals from
connected devices.
Interface is adjusted to assembly on typical rail DIN. Two-parts
connectors with screw terminal strip are made for connect wires (max. 2.5
mm2). Part with terminal strip disconnected, what make device assembly
easier. Device composition contains two clamps to transmission wires shields
connection. Detailed specifications are described in document INT-S3 user manual.
Transmission interface INT-S3 (-S3/N) is made as barrier Ex for devices equipped with transmission
circuits standard RS485 for example device MacBAT IV in telemetry installations powered by voltage in range
11÷ 30V (Z3, Z4: Um= 253V r.m.s.), for example power grid supplies or accumulators and solar battery.
Interface INT-S3 provides external power supply (6.5VDC) for connected devices in Ex zone. Interface INT-
S3/N provides external power supply (8.6VDC) only for NAMUR inputs at connected devices in Ex zone.
Presented connection schemes shows different method of power supply: from power grind and battery
combined with solar battery. In case of installation with AC power adapter it is necessary to provide grounding
with separated copper wires what have cross-section minimum 1.5 mm2. When for supply is used battery
and solar battery, only wire is necessary to grounding of INT-S3 (-S3/N).
C-18

C-20
It is necessary to ground housing of MacBAT IV. Grounding needs to be done only at one point. If
device is mounted directly on grounded gas pipeline in way that provide galvanic connection, then there is
no need for additional grounding of MacBAT IV housing. If device housing has any connection with any metal,
grounded parts of pipeline, then grounding needs to be done with copper wire (cross-section minimum 4
mm2) to terminal that is placed on optional mounting plate (mounting plate is not a standard equipment and
needs to be additionally ordered).
Metal pulse pipe connecting pressure sensor in MacBAT IV with grounded gas meter also
provides cover grounding. In case of installation MacBAT IV on gas pipeline, make sure
that mounting point is as close as possible to gas meter.
Cables of measurement and transmission circuits must have shielding, which should be grounded at
one point. Shields of mentioned cables cannot be grounded at different point –in order to prevent of creating
grounding loops (these concerns especially connection between MacBAT IV pulse input and connector for
tamper switch in gas meter head).
C-21
MacBATIV as a device for billing, should be protected against unauthorized access. To do this, unit
housing is secured with seals like presented on figure below, and access to the menu is protected by a
password system. Damage of any sealing marks causes loss of MacBAT IV device metrological features and
certifications. Avoid damaging of seals during installation and operation of the device.
Installation staff before mounting of device is obligated to verify condition of seals (if any damage will
be noted, in order to guarantee proper operation of device, verification by services, which are authorized by
manufacturer is required).

D-1
After first start-up of the device it is required to adjust it to the parameters of measuring system.
In order to do it, follow steps described in paragraph MACBAT IV START UP on page E-2.
D-2
Configuration data can be entered into the MacBAT IV using device keyboard or by remote
transmission.
Remote configuration through serial ports COM1 and COM2 is based on modification of parameters
in DP table (table of parameters) using GAZMODEM2 protocol. Configuration can be also performed with
software PlumCONF, available from manufacturer’s website: www.plummac.com
Configuration of MacBAT IV can be performed using device keyboard, too. It can be done after login
of user with adequate authorization level. All of modifiable parameters are indicated in menu by
black_background of index (first column of all tables).
D-3
In MacBAT IV is possibility to choose language, in which messages are presented on display and
send in transmission. All available languages are presented in parameter DP:405(languages) and current
chosen language in parameter DP:404(conf_language). Value of this parameter is compatible
with position, which is used by specific language in parameter DP:405.
D-4
MacBAT IV is equipped with function for program updating, which is service function.
Software update may be locked on administrative level, impossible to unlock by user. Function of
this lock is placed on parameter DP:479 (lock FW1). Value of 1 turns on lock.
User has possibility to block program update by setting parameter DP:480 (lock FW2). Value of 1
turns on lock.
Software update is only possible in situation, when alarms memory has sufficient space for safe
recording of information about update (parameters DP:388 AlarmLOG and DP:389 SetupLOG have to
be lower than 95%, menu: main screen>enter>4>2>6).
After program updating, event ZD:32 (Software update) is saved in device’s memory on alarm
list. There is information about user, who authorised program, previous and current program series and
status of the process.
D-5
Pulse inputs may work in configurations: LF (1), LF/HF (2), HF (3). Setting of configuration is done
in parameter DP:155 (conf_imp).
Turning on and working of configurations with HF input (i.e. 2 or 3) is possible only, when external
power supply is available. In case of failure of external power, it is possible to maintain of work (for
specified time) in this configurations by using battery power. This time is set in parameter DP:258
(HFmaintainT).
Frequent or long lasting maintaining of work with HF input from internal battery when external
power fails, may significantly reduce lifetime of battery. Estimated energy usage in this mode
- when working on 1 piece ofbattery - is approx. 0.3% per 1 hour.
In configuration LF/HF, HF input is used for running control counter DP:2 (V2) and gas flow rate
DP:6 (Qm). This configuration allows to control proper work of gas meter by use of events ZD:20 (HF/LF
limit) and ZD:14 (Vm-V2 limit).
After programming above parameters, control of proper work of gas meter is turned on.
D-6
Menu Pulse inputs (main screen>enter>2>1) provides all information about pulse inputs and
allows to configure their parameters. It displays pulse counters, increments of pulses during measurement
period and time between successive pulses coming from gas meter (last and previous).
After choosing modifiable parameter (blackbackground), pressing enter key allows to edit
parameter.
There is also possibility to modify and review all of parameters connected with pulse inputs via
transmission port.

MacBAT IV has 2 reserve user inputs (R1, R2) - allowing connection of external digital measuring
transducers, and 2 reserve service inputs (R3, R4). Communication of MacBAT IV with transducers is
done through RS-485 port (COM2) with use of GAZMODEM2 or ModBUS RTU protocols.
Port COM2 is standard port used for communication between user and the device.
It’s allowed to make simultaneous connection of COM2 port as external
communication port and as communication port for reserve inputs, but when
external communication is active, readout of reserves is halted and automatically
resumed after external communication is stopped.
Working of reserves readout is possible only, when external power supply is available.
Current efficiency of voltage output COM2 VO=7V is limited by internal resistance. Equivalent circuit
of this circuit can be treated as voltage source of 7V and internal resistance of 43 ohms.
D-13
Configuration of reserve input consists of setting:
▪ parameters of transmission for connected transducer (transmission speed must be the same as
speed of COM2 port of the device, and transmission address of transducer couldn’t be the same as
address of COM2 port);
▪ index number of parameter (register) from DP table of reserve, which must be read;
▪ number type of read parameter, available options are:
In factory settings, reserve inputs are disabled. To deactivate of reserve read function, parameters DP:221
R1 address or DP:222 R2 address should be set to zero.
D-14
Configuration of digital pressure transducer MacP II/D as reserve R1:
▪ the baud rate of the MacPII/D transducer should be set to the same value as the baud rate at the
COM2 port of the MacBATIV;
▪ the MacPII/D transmission address should be set to any value from 1 ÷ 65534 but different from the
COM2 port of the MacBAT IV. Program the reserve address to the parameter DP: 221 R1 address of

Optionally MacBAT IV can be equipped with additional pressure sensor p2 (sensor of absolute or
gauge pressure) with registration of measurement values. This sensor can be used as register of pressure
from exit and inlet of reducing- measuring station.
Devices with sensor of low gauge pressure (up to 1bar) show essential influence of
mechanical tension on measurement of pressure p2. To achieve declared class of
accuracy, after device mounting in destined location and connecting pulse pipes it’s
necessary to do zeroing of measurements.
To do zeroing of p2 indications, select first line of table (18 | p2) and press enter. Next, login as
privileged user and confirm zeroing.

Measurement range, limit and configuration- is realized in the same way like for input p1.
Modification and review all of parameters connected with pressure p2 input are also possible
via transmission. To do that use following parameters:
▪ Lower and upper limit of pressure p2 input: DP:202 (l p2), DP:203 (u p2).
D-19
MacBAT IV is equipped with 8 binary signalling inputs. These inputs are intrinsically safe. Inputs
DI1÷ DI6 are adapted to work with potential-free reed contacts. Inputs DI7 and DI8 are adapted to work
with inductive NAMUR transmitters. These two inputs are active only when external power source is
present. Bear in mind, that signalling input IN8 is shared with HF pulse input, so it’s active only in ‘only
LF’ pulse inputs configuration. It’s not available in pulse configurations LF/HF or HF.
Parameters of each input could be set in menu Signalling inputs (main screen>enter>8). When
active state is detected on signalling input, appropriate event will be stored in device’s memory.
Device allows to change name of signalling input, which will be used during record of event.
Modification of name is possible using transmission, on parameters DP:366÷373 (NS1÷NS8).
Additionally, when using transmission, it is possible to configure polarization of each signalling input.
It’s done at parameter DP:175 (S pol). Value of this parameter reflects binary state of 8 bit number, in
which every bit is responsible for polarization of appropriate signalization (bit0 – DI1, bit1 – DI2, etc.). If
bit has value of 1, active state of that signalization is input shorted.
D-20
MacBAT IV device is equipped with two, OC-type controlling outputs, which allow cooperation with
external systems of automation and signalling. Outputs are made in intrinsically safe version, so it’s
required to use Ex barriers when connecting external non-intrinsically safe devices. Proposed solution is
to use supply barrier INT-S3, equipped with the appropriate circuitry to separate control outputs.
Outputs OC1 and OC2 are separated. That allows to connect each output to different circuit.
D-21
OC1 and OC2 working mode: binary.
During configuration of control output to work as binary output, polarization should be set at DP:248
(OC pol) and triggering alarm DP:249 (OC1 idx) or DP:250 (OC2 idx).
Controlling outputs may be triggered by any of event or alarm (except momentary events) from ZD table.
When polarization is set to 1 (short - active), when trigger alarm is not active – output is disconnected
and when active – connected. When polarization is set to 0 (open – active), then output is constantly
connected and it is disconnected when trigger alarm is active.
Controlling outputs may be triggered by any of event or alarm (except momentary events) from ZD table.
Regardless of polarity that is set: 1 (short – active) or 0 (open – active), when trigger alarm is not active,
output is disconnected, and when alarm is active – output is connected for 50ms in each measuring cycle.
Special type of continuous events, that may be used for triggering OC outputs, are – so called – Collective
alarms. These events have codes: ZD:55 (Collective alarm A) and ZD:54 (Collective alarm B). Both of
these events are active for duration of time, programmed by user. Configuration of these special alarms
is described in chapter COLLECTIVE ALARMS CONFIGURATION, page D-48.
D-22
For preview and configuration OC1 output as frequency output, following parameters have to be used:
D-23
Special functions of DO outputs.
Running this function is by setting DP:249 (OC1 idx) or DP:250 (OC2 idx) to 256.
Working of outputs in this mode consist on switching outputs on and off proportionally to increment of
Vb. Each 1m3 of volume Vb increment causes generation of 1 output pulse. Frequency in this mode is
10Hz (high state 50ms, low state 50ms). If temporary increment of volume Vb is higher than 1m3, device
stores in internal buffer amount of pulses that hasn’t been released on output and generates max 5 pulses
per 1 cycle with 10Hz frequency until buffer is empty. Maximum size of buffer is 100 pulses.
Running this function is by setting DP:249 (OC1 idx) or DP:250 (OC2 idx) to 258.
Working the same like described above output proportional to Vb.
Running this function is by setting DP:249 (OC1 idx) or DP:250 (OC2 idx) to 257.
Working of outputs in this mode consist on switching outputs on and off proportionally to increment of E.
Each 10kWh of energy E counter causes generation of 1 output pulse. Frequency in this mode is 10Hz
(high state 50ms, low state 50ms). If temporary increment of energy E is higher than 10kWh, device
stores in internal buffer amount of pulses that hasn’t been released on output and generates max 5 pulses
per 1 cycle with 10Hz frequency until buffer is empty. Maximum size of buffer is 100 pulses.
D-24
Optionally MacBAT IV can be equipped with 1 passive current output (that requires external supply),
which allows cooperation with external automation and control systems.
Modification and preview of all parameters values, concerning current output is made by:
D-25
Option from main menu-Computed values(main screen>enter>1) allows to program limits
(lower and upper) for flow rates at base and measurement conditions. Exceeding those limits will cause
generating and registering appropriate alarm. Enter key allows to go to edition mode and confirm entered
value.
Programming limits is also possible by use of transmission. Following parameters are used for that:
limits of flow rate at base conditions: DP:193 (lQb), DP:194 (uQb) and limits of flow rate at measurement
conditions DP:195 (l Qm), DP:196 (uQm).

D-28
Function of programming billing hour, which is used to save daily data such as counter Vb, is
available in menu Configuration(main screen>enter>9) as parameter Billing hour. By default it is
set on: 06:00.
Modification of billing hour via transmission is possible using parameter DP:153 (Billing hour).
D-29
All of parameters appointed by letter R in DP table (column- “additional information”) are saved in
memory with period DP:151 (dtau). Counting and saving records is realized independently for every
registered parameter.
Registration period can be programmed in range from 1 to 60 minutes (only whole divisors of 60)
by modification of parameter DP:151 (dtau) or in menu Configuration (main screen>enter>9).
Programmed registration period appoints horizon of storing data in memory – saved as parameter
DP:152 (max reg) and it is equal (when using default set of parameters):
D-30
Device is also registering archival data with fixed, predetermined period. These include:
▪ Daily data (registration period – gas day, registration at billing hour DP:153 Billing hour, by default
set at 06:00);
Storage period of daily data is higher than 3 years;
▪ Monthly data (registration period – gas month, registration at billing hour DP:153 Billing hour, by
default set at 06:00 and in billing day DP:154 Billing day, by default first day of the month);
Storage period of monthly data is higher than 10 years;
Description of archival data sets registered with fixed period is available in document “MacBAT IV Data
Structure”.
D-31
This function is available in Configuration(main screen>enter>9) allows to modify pulse inputs.
Change of configuration can be realized only during external power supply mode. Default configuration is
LF and it is only one available during battery power mode. Configuration change is available in parameter
DP:155 (conf_imp).
D-32
In menu Configuration(main screen>enter>9) is also available option of using substitute values
of temperature and pressure, when measurements range is exceeded – transducer fault. Measurement
with substitute values continues to emergency counters only.
Change of configuration substitute values of measuring inputs p1, p2 and t via transmission is
possible by parameter DP:156 (conf_subst). Value of this parameter is equal:
D-33
Every user should have his own individual identifier (account number used as login). Account
number is added by device’s producer- by registration of user in database. For user’s request, according
to account number and device’s identifier (serial number or customer number), producer generates
password, which is active for specific day.
All of new devices allow to access to configuration of basic functions by fixed user accounts (USER-
0 orUSER-1) or by individual account number and password according to this account number for specific
day. Default activated accounts are USER-0 and USER-1 with fixed password (default 4096, modifiable).
Administrator of device can turn off this method of authorisation –thus increasing level of security, or turn
on, if it is necessary.
Any modification of parameters require login as selected user with correct password. After first login
next modification does not require authorisation. When entering sleep mode of device, user is
automatically logged out. Next change of parameter requires to login again. User has possibility to do
manual logout from main screen level, using “.” key. Information about active user logon is presented on
status bar on main screen. Modification of parameters via transmission requires to enter user identifier
and correct password every time.
All of device’s parameters designed for configuration are described in document “MacBAT IV Data
structure”, where are also indications, what kind of privileges are required to modification.
D-34
After entering into editing mode during modification, there is screen displayed, presented below:
Insufficient privileges
D-35
Default settings give following privileges for specific group of user:
Modification of device’s parameters can be realized using keyboard or remotely (by serial
transmission)in GAZMODEM2 protocol. Transmission protocol GAZMODEM2 allows to program all of
parameters. Possibility of parameters changing depends on level of privileges, which was given for specific
group. Every time during modification, there should be chosen level of privileges and entered password.
Parameter modification, account number, from which changes are made and value of modified parameter
after and before change, are registered on alarms list (in case of modification made by USER-0 as account
number will be saved value: 100000).
D-36
In MacBAT IV device there is possibility to choose computation algorithm of compression factor:
D-37
Gas composition (molar fraction) must be in following ranges (MGERG-88 and AGA8-92DC):
÷
÷
D-38
* using extended range, standard EN 12213 provides increased uncertainity during computation of compression
factor
** when programming full gas composition, sum of components must be equal to 100%, additionally from gas
composition are calculated: calorific value and relative density, that must be in defined ranges
During programming of gas composition using keyboard, sum of components must be equal to 100.000%.
It is also possible to do remote modification of gas parameters using transmission protocols GAZMODEM2,
MODBUS-RTU. In case of remote modification, permissible deviation from 100%of components sum is 0.001%.
D-39
Gas parameter must be in following ranges (SGERG-88, AGA8-G1, AGA8-G2, K1=const):
D-40
According to selected computing algorithm, device requires programming full gas composition (for
algorithms AGA8-92DC and MGERG-88) or few specific gas parameters. Permissible ranges of these
parameters are mentioned in above tables.
Exceeding allowable range of any parameter causes generation of alarm code ZD:2and switching
counting of volume and energy from main counters to emergency counters. Counting by using
constant parameter K1 automatically closes this alarm.
Device allows to enable alarm generation triggered by gas parameter modification (events with codes:
ZD:29 or ZD:72) by change of parameter DP:45 (Alarm ZSG) value from0to1. All of these records contain
following information:
▪ gas parameters (calorific value, relative density, fractions of hydrogen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen)
D-41
When using algorithms SGERG-88, AGA8-G1, AGA8-G2 and K1=const, device
requiresprogramming of parameters values such as calorific value Hs and relative density dto be
adequate for currently set base conditions (Tb and pb) for volume calculation and reference
conditions for combustion (T1 and p1, here always p1=pb). Set of base conditions in many
European countries: pb=1.01325 bar; Tb=273.15 K; T1=298.15 K.
Despite fact, that algorithmAGA8-G2 does not use calorific value Hs for calculation of
compression factor, it must be programmed, because it is necessary for correct computing of
energy counter.
D-42
Device is equipped with real time clock. After choosing menu Configuration(main
screen>enter>9), device clock is displaying as parameter DP:138 (dt/tm).
Synchronization of clock is possible via transmission port or using keyboard in menu mentioned
above.
Edition mode (enter key on dt/tm parameter) stops actualization of displayed clock (internal clock
still measures time without interruptions).
Information about clock modification is saved into device’s events memory (time before and after
modification). Access to time modification when using keyboard is protected by password. Only authorised
service has privileges to change time to past. USER-0 or USER-1 can only modify time to the past in
ranges of current day. There is no lock for setting of future time. Service access allows any modifications
of date and time.
Change of time has influence on data registration. Time manipulation and especially setting time
to past, can make it impossible to readout part of the data by computer in GAZMODEM protocol
(recommended is to readout that part of data in GAZMODEM2 protocol), because samples
in device memory could be with the same time index!
D-43
An option is available for automatic change of summer/winter time. Change of time can be realized
automatically, according to built-in calendar or manually, by setting new time by user. To configure this
function, parameter DP:136 (auto DST)is used, which is available via transmission or in menu
Configuration (main screen>enter>9).
Change of summer/winter time both automatic and manual has no influence on gas volume
counting in main counter Vb. An event ZD:6 (Time auto set) will appear in device memory in
case of changing time in configuration of automatic change of summer/winter time.
D-44
List of parameters used to control exceeding limits of hourly increments gas volume dVbh (parameters
are available mainly only remotely- by transmission channel):
c) 2 lower limits of increment dVbhin percent according to upper limits: DP:381, DP:382 (l0 dVbh 1,
l0 dVbh 2); Default values: 100%.
d) Current values of dynamic limit ofdVbh: DP:383, DP:384 (cl dVbh 1, cl dVbh 2);
List of parameters used to control exceeding limits of hourly increments of energy (available only remotely
–by transmission channel):
D-45
Additional, common parameters:
Control of hourly increments dVbh and dEh can be realized in two modes: CONSTANT LIMIT and
VARIABLE LIMIT.
(Mode, in which are used parameters from points b), d), f) and g))
Those alarms can control outputs of MacBAT IV and with connected external power supply can control
reduction of gas consumption by receivers, for example central heating boilers.
D-46
Mode2: VARIABLE LIMIT(Mode, which is destined only for volume increment dVbh)
Parameter (-s) from point b) is programmed as maximal value of limit (-s).
Parameter (-s) from point c) is programmed as minimal value of limit (-s). This value is presented in
percent according to maximal value from point b) –for example 50%.
Current value of limit cl dVbh 1 increases from level l0 dVbh 1to value l dVbh 1 in time tlimit 1.
Current value of limit cl dVbh 2 increases from level l0 dVbh 2to value l dVbh 2 in time tlimit 2.
Specific alarms are generated in the same way as in Mode1, but values of limits 1 and 2 are increasing in
time.
Working of limit. A- high danger, B- medium danger, C-lack of danger, 1- commissioned power,
2- 40/60*commissioned power, 3- power consumption per hour, 4- signalling.
For example, if parameter t limit 1is programmed as value 2400 s (= 40 minutes), generating alarm
code ZD:13 will be possible only in first 40 minutes of hour. When triggered, alarm will be active to the
end of hour. Exceeding limit of increment dVbh in period of 40…60minutes will not be registered.
D-47
A special type of alarms are collective alarms (codes ZD:55 and ZD:54), which are activated by
occurrence of at least one alarm from user-defined group of alarms with codes from entire range of ZD
table. Collective alarms can be used in remote, automatic signalling systems – to alert the Operator (eg.
by using GPRS connection) about occurrence of an alarm condition at gas metering station.
Parameters from DP table used for configuration of collective alarm code ZD:55:
Parameters from DP table used for configuration of collective alarm code ZD:54:
Numbers (codes) of configurable alarms from ZD table of device correspond to following bits of 32-bit
configuration vectors. Setting bit on the right position activates collective alarm when alarm with
corresponding code occurs.
D-48
Collective alarms are active depending on set parameters: al_GA_time and/or al_GB_time.
User has possibility to set these times as two values: 0 or 60 seconds. Setting to 0 causes collective alarm
to be active as long, as any of assigned alarms is active. During active state of collective alarm, any
occurrence of other alarms (configured to activate it) would not cause opening new nor extending duration
time of existing collective alarm.
1. Select alarms that will trigger collective alarm (e.g. ZD:3 and ZD:13)
2. Use alarm codes as power of 2 and add up all the numbers associated with the other selected alarms (here:
2^3+2^13=8+8192=8200)
3. The calculated sum (8200) program as value of parameter al_GA1 (DP:357)
1. Select alarms that will trigger collective alarm (e.g. ZD:42 and ZD:45)
2. Alarm codes decreased by 32 use as the power of 2 and add up the numbers associated with the other alarms (here:
2^(42-32)=2^10=1024 and 2^(45-32)=2^13=8192; 1024+8192=9216)
3. The calculated sum (9216) program as value of parameter al_GA2 (DP:358)
1. Select alarms that will trigger collective alarm (e.g. ZD:65 and ZD:66)
2. Alarm codes decreased by 64 use as the power of 2 and add up the numbers associated with the other alarms (here:
2^(65-64)=2^1=2 and 2^(66-64)=2^2=4; 2+4=6)
3. The calculated sum (6) program as value of parameter al_GA3 (DP:359)
A complete list of events and alarms with assigned codes are described in document “MacBAT IV Data
structure”.
D-49
The purpose of the correction function is to compensate for gas meter error, which was determined
in the calibration certificate. Error correction is possible to use only in “HF” pulse inputs configuration.
Device allows to enter up to ten points of gas meter error characteristic. Values of the flow at which
errors were determined must be entered in ascending order at parameters QP 1÷10 (DP:307÷316),
while the corresponding values of errors at parameters fP 1÷10 (DP:297÷306). If manufacturer of the
gas meter provided less than 10 points in calibration certificate, then remaining free configuration points
should be set to zeros. Enabling or disabling correction, as well as change of values of calibration points
in the device are treated as events and will appear on list of events and alarms.
Switching on/off of gas meter error correction controls the parameter from DP table
error_curve_corr (DP:296) (value 1 – correction off, 2 – correction on). Enabling or disabling of
correction generates alarm code ZD:26 “Configuration changed”.

There are two categories of alarms: system and process, and two categories of events: temporary and
constant.
System alarms are related to failures, which have influence on measured values used in calculations
of increments of main counters. During system alarms, according to alarm type, calculations are made with
substitute values (see section SUBSTITUTE VALUES on page D-33). Additionally, states of current and
registered values are changed, if failure has influence on them. When system alarms are active, main
counters (DP:0 (Vb), DP:3 (E), DP:4 (M)) are stopped and emergency counters (DP:255 (Vbe), DP:256
(Ee), DP:257 (Me)) are started instead.
Process alarms are related to failures or events, which have reduced influence on accuracy
of computing increments of main counters. Process alarms do not stop main counters, they only will change
states of measurement and registered values, if process alarms have influence on them.
Temporary and constant events are related to failures, which do not have influence on correct
values of main counters. They do not stop main counters and don’t change of registered and measured data
states. Exception are events with codes ZD:0, ZD:5 and ZD:21, which are changing state of measured and
registered data to discontinuity.
E-13
In MacBAT IV there are 3 types of memory of events and alarms:
Memory that contains records for alarms and interventions, which are essential from the viewpoint of
measurements and calculations accuracy. This memory has capacity of approximately 2000 records. Filling
level is presented on parameter DP:388 (AlarmLOG). Filling the memory above 80% will generate
additional informational event, code ZD:69, then at 100% of filling system alarm is generated (code
ZD:68) and main counters are stopped. In addition, configuration of device is blocked. This type of
memory requires periodic clearing – acknowledgment of closed alarms (confirmation by operating
personnel, that they are acquainted with list of alarms stored in memory). In order to do clearing,
parameter DP:388 (AlarmLOG) should be set to zero.
Memory that contains records for non-essential events from the viewpoint of measurements and
calculations accuracy, but important for technological reasons (signalling, limits, etc.). This memory has
capacity of approximately 2000 records. If memory is filled, older records are deleted automatically.
Memory that contains records for important interventions from the viewpoint of measurements and
calculations accuracy. This memory has capacity of approximately 1000 records. Filling level is presented
on parameter DP:389 (SetupLOG). Filling the memory to 100% does not generate any alarm, device is
still working normally, but further important changes in configuration are not possible. Erasing of this
memory is possible only by entitled metrological supervisor (permission level: INSPECTOR). In order to
do erasing, parameter DP:389 (SetupLOG) should be set to zero.
E-14
List of all alarms and events supported by MacBAT IV is contained in ZD table. ZD table can be read
by any of transmission channel in protocol GAZMODEM2.
Appearing of new system alarm is indicatedby blinking icon “!” on display, with count of active alarms
at upper index of this icon.Appearing of new events or process alarms is indicated in similar way by icon “?”.
These icons may disappear after entering into review menu of alarms and events – if no currently active
alarms or events are present. If alarm or event is still active after exiting from that menu, icon would stop
blinking, but will not disappear.

Navigation in this menu is realized as follows:
All of described parameters that can be modified in this menu could be also modified via
remote transmission.
F-23
Volume at measurement conditions DP:1 (Vm) displayed in device should be equal to value from
mechanical counter of gas meter. In case of installation or service modifications in device, both counters
should be synchronized. Different values of counter Vm in device and on mechanical counter of gas meter
during exploitation can be interpreted as failure of one of the devices. After pressing enter key on this
parameter, device goes to edition mode and allows to modify displayed value. During edition mode,
refreshing of counter value is halted (volume is still counted internally without disruptions).
Depending on selected configuration of pulse inputs, Vm counter is driven by counting using pulses
from LF or HF input, see chapter PULSE INPUTS CONFIGURATION, page D-32.
Device also has additional counter of gas volume DP:2 (V2), which is counted using pulses from HF
input.
If device is working with gas meter using LF+HF configuration, when working correctly, volumes
calculated using both of pulses inputs should be the same. Discrepancy between counters suggest that gas
meter is faulty, for example rotor blades are damaged, HF or LF transmitter is faulty, clutch of gas meter
header is damaged, and others. Correct counting of V2 counter requires uninterrupted external power supply
and HF transmitter in gas meter.
F-24
Computed values menu(main screen>enter>1)allows to review current state of counters at base
conditions: volume DP:0 (Vb), energy DP:3 (E) and emergency counters of volume DP:255 (Vbe) and energy
DP:256 (Ee).
F-25
Computed values menu(main screen>enter>1) allows to review current values of flow rate at base
conditions DP:5 (Qb) and at measurement conditions DP:6 (Qm). Additionally, current energy flow rate
value DP:7 (QE) and mass flow rate DP:8 (QM) are displayed.
Device with only low frequency output is characterized by large inertia of flow rate measurement
caused by infrequently appearing pulses (it concerns especially lower measuring range
of gas meter or gas meter with large pulse weight, for example 10m3/pulse).
F-26
(main screen>enter>1)During each clock hour a hourly average of flow is calculated. The largest
one (from gas day, starting at billing hour, default 6:00) is saved as hourly peak of volume at base conditions
DP:260(phVb) (and respectively hourly peak of energy DP:264 (ph E)).
F-27
Estimated hourly peak DP:259 (ephVb) is parameter, which estimates probable gas volume
consumption in current hour. Estimated hourly peak is calculated as follows:
(3600 − k)
eph Vb = dVbh(k) + Qb. av(k) ∙
3600
In the same way- as presented above- estimated hourly peak of energy DP:263 (eph E) is calculated.
Device allows to control computed value eph Vb. Two limits of estimated hourly peak ephVb: DP:390
(l eph 1) and DP:391 (l eph 2) are available via transmission channel. Exceeding those limits cause saving
in device memory events codes ZD:65andZD:66. Both of ephVb limits do not have any time criteria, it
means that limits are active during entire hour.
F-28
Sample of real eph Vb values from customer
A- ephVb limit, B- commissioned power, C-Qb (gas flow rate), D- dVbh (consumption in hour)
Exceeding eph Vb limitvalue will cause triggering of an alarm till the end of clock hour,
despite that during next part of the hour eph Vb can decline below limit. Attention: if at
next beginning of the hour eph Vb value is still above limit, alarm will be continued and
it will be possible to end only at the end of next hour. Change of eph
Vb limit during active alarm causes a rechecking whether alarm should be still active.
F-29
(main screen>enter>1)Current increment value DP:262(dVbh) is gas volume, which was measured
by device for period from beginning of the hour until now. In period of gas day a comparison of hourly peaks
of volume increments dVbh is done. Besides of hourly increments of volume at base conditions dVbh, device
also computes hourly energy increments DP:266 (dEh). Both of these parameters allow to monitor and alert
about exceeding of rated power.
Configuration of limits of gas volume dVbh and energy dEh increments is described in section
CONFIGURATION OF LIMITS OF HOURLY INCREMENTS, page D-45.
F-30

G-1
Realization of transmission protocols is based on fact, that device readout is done by host PC.
Commands sent to device are to give in return specific type of information. Information received by and send
from device is organized in functional blocks of programmed length. Optimal length of blocks adapted to
quality of connection can have essential influence on efficiency of data sending. Device supports data
transmission protocols:
▪ GAZMODEM,
▪ GAZMODEM2,
▪ MODBUS-RTU,
All of above transmission protocols are described in document Transmission protocols, available from
manufacturer.
Transmission protocols implemented in MacBAT IV differ from each other by functionality of remote
readout and parameters modification.
G-2
GAZMODEM protocol allows to:
All of above mentioned data structures and functionality of remote connection are described in
documents: Transmission protocols and MacBATIVDatastructure.
G-3
GAZMODEM2 protocol allows to: readout of current measurement data, readout of registered data,
readout of events and alarms, time synchronization, modification of parameters values.
Due to requirements of GAZMODEM2 transmission protocol, MacBAT IV is equipped with 3 tables, which
define ways of data exchange. These are:
▪ Table of available parameters (DP), DP table contains information about all of parameters (fixed,
measurement data, computed values and others) available in the device.
▪ Table which specifies the send order of the current data (KWDB), by using KWDB table user can
individually define sending order of selected parameters. Table is individually defined for every
transmission channel. KWDB table is actual until device restart or new setting is done.
▪ Table of events and alarms (ZD), ZD table contains information about structure of alarms and
events, which can appear during device usage. Every event is described by code, name, number
of parameters and index (from DP table) of parameters saved with event in device memory.
All of above mentioned data structures and functionality of remote connection are described in
documents: Transmission protocol and MacBATIVDatastructure.
G-4
MODBUS RTU protocol allows to readout of current data according to description in DP table. All of data
structures and functionality of remote connection are described in documents: Transmission protocols and
MacBATIVDatastructure.
G-5
MacBAT IV is equipped with two channels of serial transmission: COM1 and COM2 in standard RS-485
and wireless transmission port COM3 in standard IEC 62056-21 (OPTO).
All of transmission ports are working independently and allow to transmit with speed up to 115200 baud.
