Building Summary

TERI Southern Regional Centre, designed

by Chandravarkar & Thakeria Associates,
at Bangalore, Karnataka, in the year
1999. it consists of administration,
conference rooms, auditorium, office
spaces, guest house, server room and
storage units with steel frame and glass,
construction, in a mild temperate climate
and seaside campus context.

TERI – SRC Green Features

A high-sustainability building, based on passive & active energy efficiency, daylighting, shading,
Sustainability
and natural ventilation system.
The TERI SRC is designed to use less energy than standard practice. It appears to be achieving
Overall Energy
less than 30kWh /m² of energy use per year, which puts it at 75% more energy efficient than
Efficiency
standard practice.
Restoration of degraded site, minimized footprint, special care with construction and materials.
Site Features
Appropriate orientation has been achieved through large façade facing north & south
Landscape Less then 25% area impervious, maximum percolation of rainwater, indigenous plantation for
design reduced water use.
Building Building massing with light colors with RCC flat & coffered roofing, concrete masonry unit, roof
Envelope shading, green roof, earth berming
Interior Extensive use of high-recycled content of rubber wood panels, seamless construction of beam and
Construction column with walls, light color interior, one volume system
Interior Substantial daylighting through windows and skylight achieving more then 80% of day lit area,
Lighting with many artificial lights switched off during day.
Office spaces have a induced ventilation controlled by passive cavity wall on south side. Air
Heating and
exhaust on roof through grills. It is assisted by pressure draft created by flange for natural
Cooling
ventilation cooling. Additional solar chimneys for dining space for induced ventilation strategies.
Indoor Air Use of materials with low volatile organic compounds, usage of plants/small trees for air
Quality purifications
Water
Rainwater harvesting and reuse for landscape
conservation
Solid waste
Bio mass collected from garden converted to compost, in-house waste segregated and recycled
