ABSTRACT
Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) is a method of digital signal modulation in
which a single data stream is split across several separate narrowband channels at different frequencies to reduce
interference and crosstalk. This method reduces interference among symbols and makes it easier to receive each
symbol accurately while maintaining the same throughput.

OFDM technology was first conceived of in the 1960s and 1970s during research into minimizing
interference among channels near each other in frequency and to achieve clean data transmission in situations prone
to interference and signal corruption when more conventional modulation schemes are used.

In this project, we use DFT based channel estimation. The discrete Fourier transform (DFT) –based channel
estimation can get a better performance by a time domain processing. In this paper, we proposed an improved DFT
based channel estimation which suppresses the noise by a new threshold setting method. The computational
complexity of DFT estimation method is much lower than the previous algorithms. Using this algorithm, the noise
can be efficiently eliminated with very small loss of channel leakage power.

OFDM is used in Wi-Fi, DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) internet access, 4G wireless communications, and
digital television and radio broadcast services.

Software Requirements : Matlab.
