 Assignment Statement

Petroleum refining processes and operations can be classified into different unit processes and
unit operations such as separation, conversion, treatment, formulating and blending, auxiliary
refining operations and refining non-process operations. Petroleum refining begins with the
distillation, or fractionation, of crude oils into separate hydrocarbon groups. Fig. 1 shows process
flow diagram of an oil refinery. Classify whether a unit operation or a unit process is taking place
in respective unit? Describe unit operations and unit processes involved.
