Drug and nutritional food from marine resources Challenges by Indonesia- Australia collaborative

Indonesia and Australia has an enormous diversity of marine organism, because it is surrounded by
oceans. But those resources are still remain explored as drug source. Many research still focus to
develop drug resources from terrestrial plants. In other hand, marine environment represents
countless and diverse resource for new drug to combat major disease such as malaria or cancer. For
example, Astaxanthin, it is claimed as the strongest antioxidant in the world. Marine organism also
potential as nutritial food resources, such as seaweed, algae, microalga, carageenan, etc. Indonesia &
Australia can build a collaborative research to explore all potential resources from marine as drug and
nutritional food sources.
