3rd period

SPEPES #1

The author uses statistical information and quotations to build their claim that Molly of Denali is

an important television landmark. “About 70 Alaska Native people work on the show”, many

Native people worked on this show behind the scenes or on the stage. That’s a big step for them

because Rachelle advisored the making of the show, “no, no, no that’s disrespectful”, she helped

them to make the show respectful to the Native people.

SPEPES #2

The relationship between the Ibo people and the white Christian missionaries can be

characterized in different ways because the author writes “Said someone light-heartedly and the

crowd laughed” (145) we see how the villagers of Mbanta think they are ridiculous and don’t

take serious what the missionaries are saying. The author also writes “Told Mr. Kiara that he had

decided to go to Umofia… Nwoye didn’t fully understand it. But he was happy to leave his

father” (152) Nwoye uses the church to escape from his father even though he doesn’t really

understand it. In conclusion, the relationship between the Ibo people and the missionaries may

vary depending on the person and what they are going through.
