Water Treatment

Project

By Max Leonard, Cooper Hochman, Daniel Ford, Luke Venezia

Our Project

Test what and how much a standard Brita water

pitcher can filter

● 3 tests
○ pH tube
○ pH specific
○ Nitrate Phosphate
Brita Replacement Water Pitcher Filter

❏ Brita makes no claims to remove anything except Lead and Copper

which it claims to remove 99.9%
❏ Active carbon reduces the smell and taste of mercury and chlorine
❏ Ion-exchange resin captures copper, cadmium, and zinc
The Process

First, water flows through a built-in mesh screen

that prevents black flecks. (Black flecks are caused
by manganese and/or iron being in the water.)

Secondly, activated carbon granules act like a

sponge to reduce mercury and chlorine taste and
odor.

In addition, Ion Exchange Resin captures copper,

zinc and cadmium.

The Redesign

How fast does it filter?

How much does ion resin costs?
It can filter water within 2 minutes
$88 per 25 Liters.

How much does a 1 foot prism of granulated carbon How long will this filter last?
costs?
Approximately 2,000 gallons before it needs
$12 per 40 Ounces to be replaced

How much does thin mesh cost? 6 Total cost:

3$ per 12´´x8´´ $6,261
