Solution to Delhi city traffic problems:

Challenges before us:

1) Changing demand
2) Congestion
3) Safety
4) Environment

Delhi city, the capital of India, is built on the banks of Yamuna river and inspite of that it do not
face any natural or topographical challenges like floods and landslides as the city of Rio de
Janeiro. It is built on the planes. However, there are earthquake warnings but it never occurred.
So, it is free from natural calamities till present. Delhi-NCR is an industrial area too with large
number of companies, industries and offices. The main problems in this city/area lies in that the
undesirable modes of transportation i.e. car and 2-wheeler are growing and the use of desirable
modes: walking, bicycle and public transport is declining. There is huge deficit in urban
transport services and infrastructure both in quality and quantity. Due to this congestion is
increasing, mobility is reducing and the use of fossil fuel, pollution and accidents are rising.
This is the case when new flyovers and bridges are constructed day by day and metro train
service is working in an efficient manner. With present infrastructure and facilities this problem
should not have arised if we are properly educated and implementing that education, what we
have learnt, in our daily life. This problem will never get solved by building new flyovers and
bridges but by changing our demands, our thinking.

1) We all should rationalize our thinking, use public transport more and more even if we
become billionaires. Avoid cars and 2-wheelers. Avoid using Auto-ricksaws, use buses,
low pollution CNG rickshaws and metro trains until there is an emergency. When the
demands for cars and 2-wheelers will decrease there will not be much congestion. This
will also save you from unwanted cheating by auto-ricksaw or tempo walas.

2) The production of new cars and 2-wheelers must be stopped in order to control the
situation and meet the above challenges. They must be redirected to construct public
vehicles like buses and metros of better quality with latest and effective technology
inorder to provide comfort and safety to the passengers.

3) Population explosion, increase in population day by day, is another reason for these
problems. The third or later birth in every family must be killed or stopped completely.
Follow “We 2 and our 2 or our 1” for a healthy family style all over in India. When
population will be controlled, there will not be excess demands in this overpopulated
country and especially Delhi region.
4) The children must be properly and strictly taught for “the use of public transport
vehicles and why we should avoid private vehicles”, in the schools and also by their
parents.

5) Heavy fines must be imposed on the irregular use of private vehicles in Delhi region. If
the public is not following the rules and regulations we shall have to increase the level of
punishment and they should be put behind bars.

6) For safety, government has already taken so many steps as far as concerned. Just we
need to be cautious enough to handle any situation.

7) More and more trees should be planted, which the government is already doing in order
to tackle the pollution problem but thing is that it should be adopted by us, the public.

8) More cities in other parts should be developed like Delhi inorder to divert the flow of
population. It is seen that all the important offices/colleges/companies are located in
Delhi-NCR because of Delhi being the capital city of India. Some of them should be
shifted to other cities also.
It is seen that nowadays more and more people wants to have their homes in Delhi mostly for
occupation (job or business), they should be welcomed but they must obey the above 8 rules. In
all the scenarios the above solutions will work. There is no use to construct so many flyovers in
this region any more. When the demands for private vehicles will become less, the congestion
problem automatically gets solved and when vehicles will become less and of better quality, the
pollution will become less. It will be easier to handle the situations in a better manner if we
adopt these strategies. Otherwise the balance will get disturbed and technology will not be of
any use. The government has already taken so many steps and it’s now our duty how we use
those steps. The solution to Delhi city problems completely lies within us. These steps were
taken in other countries also like US, France and China, in cities, where population density is
more and in India, these are most wanted not only in Delhi but more or less in other cities also.
Thank you.
