Problem Description: The crime rate in India is increasing YOY.

Since there is no real-time tracking and

reporting of these incidents, these rates are ever increasing. In majority of the cases victim cannot be
protected as the information reaches the Police Department after the occurrence of the crime. For the
Police Department to take timely steps, a system of real-time crime reporting is required which will alert
the police as and when a suspicious or criminal activity is detected.

Solution:

Many surveillance cameras are installed around the cities which record the activities. Video surveillance
systems produce enormous amounts of video. Due to dearth of time or resources these videos never get
watched or reviewed. As a result, security incidents get overlooked and it is undetected in time to
prevent unfortunate incidents. We will use video analytics to analyze these videos in real-time and alert
the police in case of criminal activities. Our product is a video analytics enabled surveillance camera
named ‘VideoCop’. This camera uses technologies like Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

The VideoCop will be installed in the crime prone areas and will record all the activities of that area just
as a CCTV does. VideoCop will comprise a software which will analyze the real time recording and raise
an alert to the Police Department with the exact location details. For the video analysis, we will have a
training dataset which will consist of a huge amount of images which depict any kind of criminal or
violent activities known to humankind. The recording will be segmented into multiple image frames in
real time and it will be checked against our dataset. We will use Artificial Intelligence to decide if a clip
can be considered suspicious. If some violent, criminal or suspicious activity is detected in the recording
an alert with the recorded video clip will be sent to the nearest Police stations. Thus, the Police can take
adequate actions to stop the crime and save the victim. VideoCop will have an Intrusion detection
feature which alerts the Police if it is manhandled. It also supports night vision. It will improve the live
reporting and tracking of criminal activities to prevent crimes.
