INTRODUCTION TO UWC

● UWC is the short form of “UNDERWATER COMMUNICATION”

● UWC is essential for environmental surveillance, submarine
Communication,oil and gas exploration.
● In the UWC, future research directions and recommendations
using fifth generation(5G) Communication techniques.
● We use RF, OPTICAL WAVES, ACOUSTIC metchods for
communication through water.
GFDM

● GFDM is the short form of “GENERALIZED FREQUENCY DIVISION

MULTIPLEXING”
● GFDM is a Technique for the fifth generation (5G) standard
based on multibranch multicarrier filter bank.
● The Bandwidth of GFDM is 48khz unlike OFDM Bandwidth is 6khz
● The Bandwidth limitations of the UWA and OFDM makes GFDM
one the most significant and widely used in UWC.
● Using flexible multicarrier transmission that introduces additional
Bandwidth when I compared to OFDM technique.

Importance and Benefits

● Underwater Navigation
● Distance measuring
● Submerine communication
● Coastal securities
● Higher Bandwidth as compared TO
OFDM
CHALLENGES

● Deploying UWC techniques as compared to

terrestrial wireless communication is quite
complicated process.
● The quality of service (QOS)depends on the
physicochemical properties of water medium
and physical characteristics of the GFDM
CONCLUSION

● GFDM is an emerging technology for future 5G

networks
● Taking the advantage of the high degree of
flexibility in frequency band selection
● The multicarrier scheme will reduce the power
consumption and the hardware cost
