Job offer for Program Director With Empowerment International

We are an organization committed to poverty alleviation by offering access to education to


vulnerable children and youth by accompanying both them and their parents through the
educational process while facilitating solutions when obstacles arise.

building more educated and productive communities. EI’s vision is to enable every child to go to

With 15 years of presence in two communities, EI has established strong relationships within
the communities it serves. We have built our results on deep, long-term connections with the
children and parents we serve and believe that depth, not breadth is the most profound way to
implement true change and that each child that succeeds is our ultimate result. We do not
consider touching many children lightly as impactful.

Instead of reinventing programs, we work with existing governmental and non-governmental


organizations to supplement our programs, always with the goal of eliminating obstacles and
barriers to education while also empowering our program constituents and team members. We
believe deeply in hand-ups, not handouts.

EI is l​ ooking for a Program Director to oversee our small local program team of 12, which is
comprised of the following areas: 1. Education, 2. Health (physical and emotional, with a focus
on emotional) 3.Community Development 4. Child Sponsorship. The Program Director will
report to the Executive Director and work closely with the local board of directors. The candidate
must demonstrate significant experience in leading and evaluating personnel, have a
collaborative style of management, have experience in fundraising and donor cultivation, have
excellent ethics and be a steward of funds.

Requirements:

1. Minimum of 5 years of experience in formulating and managing projects and programs in


at least one of the following areas: at-risk and vulnerable children and youth programs,
education, health
2. Fluent in English and Spanish.

3. Significant knowledge of monitoring and evaluation for internal and external use with an
emphasis on impact and improvement
4. Be willing to work in all departments in order to have an excellent understanding of each
and willing to spend a portion of time in the communities served.
5. Live in or be willing to relocate to the department of Granada. Demonstrated ability to
build and maintain productive working relationships with a broad network of partners,
stakeholders and government entities.
6. Knowledge of donor cultivation and grant writing.
7. Be able to manage program budgets and oversee the finances.
8. Maintain the organization’s legal requirements per Nicaragua law.
9. Work with both the local Nicaragua board of directors and the USA/Canadian boards.
10. Proficient in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, have strong writing skills and be willing to
learn how to use the program database Salesforce and program management tool called
Asana.
11. Be proficient in writing program reports for the ED, BOD, and specific donors as
required.
12. Be able to write basic grant proposals and project plans.
13. Have the ability to work under pressure, be detail orientated, be flexible and able to work
in a dynamic environment. Strong time management skills are a must.
14. An in depth understanding of Nicaragua culture is required. Because you will be
working with donors and volunteers from other countries, exposure to North American
and European cultures is highly desirable.
15. Be willing to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
16. All candidat​es must maintain a 100% politically neutral image.
17. Also desirable: a current USA and or Canadian Visa, relationships with funding entities,
experience with Salesforce
18. Be tactful and open-minded. Have a passion for the cause and be willing to empower
and uplift the team to reach their maximum potential.

Responsibilities:
1. Supervise the departments in all aspects, including monitoring, evaluation, and daily
operations. Ensure that all aspects of the programs are well documented and all normal
program and donor requirements are being followed. Verify that procedures and policies
are up to date and available for all.
2. Ascertain communication and planning processes are working with all team members.
3. Ensure quality in the execution of all of EI’s projects and programs.
4. Ensure the alignment of programs with the principles and values of EI are maintained.
5. Ensure program data is maintained in the database (Salesforce) at all times.
6. Ensure the different components of the programs are having the maximum possible
impact.
7. Develop new institutional alliances to leverage resources and increase funding.
8. Maintain friendly and productive relationships with key representatives of donor
institutions.
9. Travel to the USA and possibly Canada one to two times a year.

Salary:​ Competitive with the market.
