Facilitating Transfer of Passengers in Airport

AIM-To make airports smarter and faster by replacing time

consuming traditional process with Artificial Intelligence assisted
process
Problem Statement
Airport domestic passengers are generally requested to enter airport before one
hour and boarding would be stopped before 20 minutes. International
passengers are requested to enter airport before three hours.
1. Entry gate: - A domestic/international passenger on an average may take
15-25min to enter a gate due to document/ID verification.
2. Self-service/Boarding pass: – Domestic passengers should take boarding
pass at the airport using automatic machines, which may take 5-10 min
3. Check-in Baggage:- On an average, domestic passengers would take
around 10-25 min and international passengers may take 40-90 min to
drop baggage
4. Security Check:- On an average it may take around 20-30 min to clear
security check
5. Immigration:- International passengers would take around 30-40 min
To enter food courts/lounges it may take 50-90 min for domestic passengers
and 105-175 min for international passengers.
In order to make the above steps faster without compromising security, we
propose a complete system which could work with existing installations of
airports

Solution
We propose a smart android/IOS app to link boarding pass with face and
baggage images of passengers. Every passenger is assigned a different
identification number and maintained in database.
1. Entry gate: - Face Recognition based document/ID verification at entry
gate would speed up the process and each passenger may take 2 to 3 min
for verification.
Limitation:- Authentication of boarding pass can’t be verified
2. Self-service/Boarding pass: –Face Recognition based boarding pass
collection would take 2-3 min
Limitation- API of carriers regarding passenger information required/ Using our
API by carriers
3. Check-in Baggage: - Face Recognition based (retrieval of documents for
verification) and crowd counting based queue management system in
airports used would take around 5-10 min to drop baggage for domestic
passengers and 30-40 min for international passengers.
Limitation- API of carriers regarding passenger information required/
Using our API by carriers, accuracy of crowd counting depends on camera
angle ,distance and quality. Accuracy of crowd count would be + or - 2
persons
4. Security Check:- Face Recognition based security check and crowd
counting assisted smart queue management would enhance security in
airports and may take 10-20 min
Limitation- API of carriers regarding passenger information required/
Using our API by carriers, accuracy of crowd counting depends on camera
angle ,distance and quality. Accuracy of crowd count would be + or - 2
persons
5. Immigration:- Face Recognition based retrieval of documents for
International passengers and crowd counting assisted smart queue
management would make passengers to complete immigration process in
30-35 min
Limitation- API of carriers regarding passenger information required/
Using our API by carriers, accuracy of crowd counting depends on camera
angle ,distance and quality. Accuracy of crowd count would be + or - 2
persons
In order to enter food courts/lounges it may take 14-30 min to domestic
passengers and 74-100 min for international passengers.

Passenger service/Business Analysis

1. Generating revenue to retail Traders
Problem: Generating revenue is very common issue at the airport, this problem
can be solved when travellers spends more time at retail area.
Solution:
a. Business alerts can be generated with respect to travellers based on the
purchase history. Whatever being purchased is stored in database with FR.
Later, alert can be given to traveller regarding customized offers/discount based
on purchase history.
b. Instead passengers pass their time in the lounge, there should be alerts on
offers to force them to check out what is in store for them.
2. Alert to passenger on different scenarios
Problem:
a. Delay in flight
b. Change in gate
c. Time required to reach the gate
d. Live updates to passenger
e. Searching for baggage drop belt

Solution:
a. Alert given to passenger about various activities like delay in flight, change
of gate etc.
limitation
b. Track passenger and guide them with alert so that they can reach to the
gate on time and maximize their utilization of time in retail section. In this way,
we can also increase the revenue.
3. PRM (passenger with reduced mobility)
Problem: The number of Passengers with Reduced Mobility (PRM) who need
wheelchair assistance to move around the airport is growing substantially every
year. Although wheelchair services need to be booked in advance, oftentimes
people either don’t show up for their appointment or come asking for help
spontaneously. Both cases lead to inefficiencies in time management and
resource distribution.
Solution: Design application to create the allocation of wheelchair and free
wheelchair, passenger can select wheelchair from that application through FR
and ticket number.
Airport Baggage Security
Aim: Identifying abandoned Baggage and Baggage Tracking from Departure to
Arrival

Problem Statement:
1. “Unattended Baggage” or “Abandoned Baggage” are the words that
occurs when a passenger leave his baggage for a quite amount of time (might
be willingly or not). This can lead to either theft of the bag or can create a
suspicious activity in the airport leading the airport officials to carry the bag
away for checking which might cause loss of the baggage or return of the
damaged baggage with some loss of items.
2. Every year, “Baggage mishandling” costs the air transport industry
around US$2.9 billion annually. Correct baggage handling not only reduces costs
but also contributes to facilitation and passenger comfort. Even airport
transport provides RFID tags to each and every bag there might be a possibility
of miscarrying due to either similar color or by similar manufactured company
of the bags. So the passenger might lose his bag in the tier after arrival to his
destination airport due to miscarrying of bags by other passengers (either willing
or not).

Solution:
1. Design an android or IOS app which collects the picture of the passenger and
his bags in order to generate a unique number which can be later attached to
the RFID tags (After Check-in) created by the airport authorities.
limitation-API of carriers regarding passenger information required/ Using our
API by carriers
2. Extracting the characteristics (Color, Shape, Texture and Size) of the
passenger’s bag.
3. Detecting and identifying the company manufactures logo in order to track
the bag.
limitation- 90% of Logo should be visible in image uploaded
4. We use our tracker in order to identify the respective position of the bag i.e.,
either the bag that is checked in (or) the bag which is with the passengers.
limitation- Tracker would be 60% accurate
5. API’s has to be created in order to generate and send a message to both
passengers and airport officials, when the passenger left the baggage
unattended for a quite amount of time.
limitation- accuracy of detection and tracking depends on camera angle
,distance and quality
6. Our algorithm that tracks the RFID tag every time such that no passenger’s
bag should not leave the bag in the case of arrival. If it happens due to
miscarriage then an automatic information has to be generated and sent to the
officials and also to the passengers (of course) along with the image of the
passenger (corresponding to the RFID tag) who is miscarrying the bag.
limitation- Extra hardware required to install

Enhancing Security in the Airport

AIM: To Enhance the Security in the Airport using Smarter solutions
1.PROBLEM:
In order to reduce ticket fraud or mistakes, the LPR unit is used to capture the
plate number and image of the cars. The information may be used to calculate
the parking time or provide a proof of parking in case of a lost ticket - a typical
problem in airport parking which have relatively long (and expensive) parking
duration
SOLUTION: Vehicle Number plate detection and tracking using AI
limitation- Number Plate should be visible to camera, car should be halted for 2-
3 seconds
2.PROBLEM:
The aim for suspicious detection using CCTV is to monitor suspicious activities
real time reactions. Now a day the crime and terrorist attack has increased
drastically many organizations who needs high security has been installing a
video surveillance system, but it is not that reliable as it store offline videos
which can be easily fooled. We are proposing a system which works as an
Automated Video System to detect and track suspicious human behaviour.
However Human Behaviour is random and unpredictable, classification of
suspicious behaviour of human can be very difficult. Our primary goal is defining
a system that can Automatically Track and detect Peoples unusual or suspicious
movements in Closed Circuit TV (CCTV). Detection of Suspicious Movement or
Activities had attracted an increasing level of attention.
SOLUTION: Loitering detection, Action recognition, Facial Expression analysis
limitation- accuracy of detection and tracking depends on camera angle
,distance and quality. Facial expression would 60% accurate, action recognition
would be 70-80% accurate
3.PROBLEM:
The aim for activity detection using CCTV is to monitor suspicious activities real
time reactions like fighting and stealing if any objects
SOLUTION: Action recognition
limitation- accuracy of detection depends on camera angle ,distance and quality.
Action recognition would be 70-80% accurate
4.PROBLEM:
Video Camera People Searching: Appearance Encoding, to create applications to
enable rapidly searching video streams for instances of people whose
appearance matches that of a specific subject.
People counting: Implement solutions that estimate the number of people in
venues Airports, Counts per sector can reflect visitors’ numbers at different
times per day, week and month.
People tracking and multi-person tracking: Build a custom system that enables
monitoring people in view of a video camera, and follow their movements.
Video re-identification allows following specific individuals over time.
SOLUTION: Appearance search
limitation- accuracy of detection and tracking depends on camera angle
,distance and quality. More than 60% of person should be visible
5.PROBLEM:
The goal of Facial Emotional Recognition in the Airports and other
transportation checkpoints, high-value interrogations could all benefit from
emotion recognition technology to accurately and quickly work out people's
motivations.
SOLUTION: Facial emotional recognition
limitation- accuracy of detection depends on camera angle ,distance and quality.
Facial expression would 60% accurate
6.PROBLEM:
The goal of crowd counting in the airport to Count Airport Passengers,Real-time
people counting in airports assists in responding to dynamic situations and also
provides essential data for future planning.

Monitor Passenger Traffic Flow:Understanding people movement within airports

is essential to managing congestion and improving the customer experience for
travellers.

Maximise Retail & Real Estate Revenues:Measuring footfall and popular routes
throughout airports is essential to making the most of retail revenues and
maximising the return on investment for airport real estate.

Deploy Staff Efficiently:Using accurate people counting data can enable true
demand driven rostering and staff schedules throughout the airport to accurately
reflect customer needs.
SOLUTION:
Crowd counting
limitation- accuracy of detection and tracking depends on camera angle
,distance and quality.
