Explain different components & their functions of

Motherboard

Major Motherboard components & their function

A) CPU (Central Processing Unit): CPU is the computer brain. It

is responsible for fetching, encoding & decoding and
executing mathematical & logical c.
The processor Chip is identified by the processor type &
Manufacturer.
Example: Intel, Advanced Micro Device (AMD).

B) RAM (Random Access Memory): It is

usually refers to complex chips that temporarily
store dynamic data. RAM is volatile, it means it
losesits contents once power is turned off.

C) BIOS (Basic Input Output Systems): It positioned integrated in the Chip. BIOS
contains all the information& Setting of the motherboard.

D) Hard Drive: Hard Drive store all of our data. It is 3.5 Inch
wide & need to be mounted so that we can access cable
connection on the back.

E) Optical Drive: The Optical Drive is 5.25 inch

wide & is installed in the drive. Use removed cover
from a previous step cable access consideration.

F) Power Supply:
Consult our
documentation for details & then follow these
directions. Align mounting holes in the case & Power
Supply then tighten the screws.
G) CPU Fan: CPU Fan is a combination of a heat sink & fan together.
The unit draws heat away from the CPU.

H) Input/Output: Input & Output parts are placed at the very side of
computer chassis. In particular the I/O parts is built to connect the
Monitor, Speakers, Microphone etc.& multiple USB device.

I) SATA: SATA stands for ‘Serial Advance Technology Attachment’. Important to realize,
it is the latest connector with 7-pin interface. It is faster & better than IDE connector.
2. How to Assemble a PC?

i) Procuring Parts: First we will need to buy the parts necessary to build the
computer__
a) Processor
b) CPU Cabinet
c) Motherboard
d) Optical Drive
e) RAM
f) Power Supply
g) SATA Cable
h) Processor Fan
i) Cabinet Fan
j) Hard Drive
k) Tools

ii) Open the Cabinet: To open the computer cabinet, we first open the side panels by
removing the screws hold the side panels.

iii) Install Motherboard: To install the motherboard we need parts that should have
been include with our purchased components. Remove I/O shield from the back of
the case where the parts on the back of the motherboard will fit. Locate the screw
holes on your motherboard & tight the screw on it.

iv) AT Connector: It is one of the connections which is found on the oldest motherboard
& It has found on the latest forms of the motherboard Is consists 20 or 24 female
Connectors & It is latest power connector.

v) Expandable Card Slot: When you need to add components to update any parts of the
motherboard, a motherboard expansion card slot allow us to do. It help us to add
external device to display, a video cards needs to connect to the monitor to display
the video.
3. How to install a new Operating System?

i) Insert Windows 7 Bootable Media: First we need to insert Windows 7 Bootable

media.

ii) Boot from the Media: Now restart the computer & while PC is restarting begin
pressing the F12 and del key again & again. This will take the computer to the boot
options menu. Now that we are in the boot menu, we need to use the cursor keys on
our keyboards to move our choices to the bootable media.

iii) Beginning the process: After we have chosen to boot from the media, we will have
to wait a few moment until ask for any instruction for input or not. Windows will
load the all the necessary files required for the installation process. In the first
appearing screen we have to choose the ‘Language to install’, ‘Time and currency
format’ and ‘Keyboard or input method’. Then proceed with the ‘Next’ button.
In the next screen there will be a ‘Install now’ option, we have click on it to
proceed for the installation process.
iv) Choosing the OS variant: Next we have to choose the OS Architecture and Variant
(Home, Professional, Ultimate etc.) and proceed with the ‘Next’ button below.

In the next screen we will get a license Agreements, We have to accept it by

click on the check box of “I accept the license terms”, and proceed with ‘next’ option.

v) Choosing the installation type: Next we have to choose the installation type,
‘Upgrade’ or ‘Custom’. Upgrade option will keep all the previous installed OS files
and continue with new OS installation. Custom option will not keep any previous files
and continue with a new OS installation.
vi) Choose installation path: In this step we have to choose the installation path for
Windows. If the hard drive is partitioned before choose from the listed partitions, If
not we have to create partition by following steps below___

a. Select the primary Partition, click on the Drive options(advanced).

b. Click on new option, enter the drive volume in Megabytes.
c. Select the created partition to proceed for installation process.

vii) Computer will install Windows, and restart for several times, wait until for final
permission & user configuration page. In the User configuration page, enter the PC
name, user name, password, password hint (optional) and continue.
