Title : Designers of Condenser Design to Produce Fuels That Utilize Hot Steam
Results of Combustion of PET Type Plastic
Counsellor : IR. Rudi Hermawan, MM. MT

One of the causes of current environmental problems is the increasing amount of waste that
is difficult to decompose by the environment. In this life, the need for energy every day is always
increasing, seeing the rapid growth of humans in all parts of the world. Indonesia is a country that
has natural resources that can be utilized to meet the energy needs of its people, but this cannot
be done directly because some energy sources produce limited steam and pressure. One solution
that can be done is to reduce plastic waste by the pyrolysis process.

The pyrolysis process is the process by which the waste is burned in the furnace then the
heat vapor from the combustion is cooled to become liquid fuel. In the pyrolysis process the plastic
is burned at the temperature of the pyrolysis furnace at 500-800 ° C and the result becomes hot
steam which is then channeled to the condenser to be cooled into fuel. The temperature needed to
be fuel is gasoline 150 ° C.

Condenser system design is done by using the HTRI Xchanger Suite software to get the
design results that can work optimally according to the desired system requirements. The heat
exchanger used for this condenser is shell and tube type. The results of the analysis using htri
software get heat (Q) of 4800 W, convection coefficient (Hc) 1181.72 W / M ^ 2. K, mass flow rate
(ṁ) 0.055 kg / s, and overall heat transfer coefficient (U) 1173.64 W / M ^ 2.K.
