ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We would like to express our greatest gratitude to the people who
have supported us throughout our project. We thanks to the
electrician Trilochan, all the teaching and non teaching staff of our
school for providing information about the different energy
consumption by them. We would also like to thank our principal as
well as Biology teacher Mrs. Rajashree Panigrahi we have given us
the golden opportunity to do this project.

At last we would like to thank the God who made all the things
possible.

Introduction
Energy is required in almost everything in human
life and the resources of energy are limited on Earth.
So, energy should be conserved in a proper manner.
‘Energy Conservation’ means conservation or using
less energy as needed to us. Energy sources can be
categorized in two ways i.e. Renewable Energy
sources and Non-Renewable Energy sources.

Non Renewable Energy sources are energy sources

that cannot be replaced easily when they get
exhausted.

Renewable Energy sources are energy sources that

can be replenished or reproduced spontaneously in a
short period of time.

In today’s life, energy is used in everything from

house to car. Electricity and petrol are mostly used.
We can say that the Non Renewable Energy sources
are mostly used. These energy sources should be
used less as they will get exhausted and take million
of years to produce. In place of them, we should use
the Renewable energies like electricity, water energy,
wind energy, solar energy, etc.

We should conserve the renewable energy

resources so that they will be available in the future
for our upcoming generations.
ENERGY SOURCES
In general energy sources are of two types:
1.Conventional /Non Renewable Energy sources
2. Non Conventional /Renewable Energy sources
CONVENTIONAL SOURCES OF ENERGY
These energy sources which have accumulated
in nature over a very, very long period of time
and cannot be quickly replaced when exhausted.
The Non Renewable sources of energy are: Fossil
fuels (Coal, Petroleum and Natural gases), and
nuclear fuels (such as uranium).
The conventional sources of energy like fossil
fuels are present in a limited amount in the
Earth. Once it has been exhausted, they will not
be available to us again. The nuclear fuels have
been put in the category of conventional sources
of energy because the nuclear materials which
can be conveniently extracted from the Earth are
limited.
NON CONVENTIONAL SOURCES OF ENERGY
These sources of energy which are being
produced continuously in nature and
inexhaustible. The Renewable sources of energy
are : Hydro energy (energy from flowing water);
wind energy; solar energy; geothermal energy;
biomass energy and hydrogen.
These sources of energy can be used again and
again, endlessly. They will never get exhausted.
The scientists have started showing renewed
interests in exploring and using the alternative
sources of energy due to two reasons: (1)
Because the fossil fuels and nuclear fuels in the
Earth are limited which may not last for long. (2)
Because of the undesirable effects of pollution
both from the burning of fossil fuels and the
radioactive nuclear wastes of nuclear power
plants.
ENERGY CONSERVATION
It is common say my that “Energy saved is energy
produced” so, we should try to prevent the
energy from being wasted uselessly. This can be
done everywhere, in homes, in schools in
transport and in industries. In many homes the
lights and fans are kept switched on even when
not needed; radio and TV are kept on
unnecessarily; and water is heated to high
temperature by sheer negligence and then
allowed to cool for taking bath in winter. All
these are highly undesirable practices which
waste the precious electrical energy. So, when
even we see a fan or light on unneceressaily in
our home or school, we should turn them off at
once. We should take a great care in using fossil
fuels like, coal, petroleum products (like petrol,
diesel, kerosene ) and natural gas. These should
be conserved as far as possible as they will take
million of years to produce again exhausted and
we should use the alternative sources of energy
instead of using the Non Renewable sources of
energy.
