Course Objectives & Competences to be Acquired

After the completion of this course, the students will be able to:
 Identify and classify modern manufacturing operations, including their capabilities, limitations,
and how to design for lowest cost
 Explains how designers influence manufacturing schedule and cost.
 Learn how to analyze products and be able to improve their manufacturability and lower costs.
 Explain the relationship between customer desires, functional requirements, product materials,
product design, and manufacturing process selection.
 Examine a product and determine how it was manufactured and why.
 Explain the importance of human-factors in manufacturing and assembly, and how it relates to
design
 Describes how and why value stream analysis is used to lower manufacturing costs.
 Identify the advantages and disadvantages of hard (inflexible) and soft (flexible) manufacturing
automation.
 Explain the advantages and disadvantages of discrete-event simulation and how it is used to reduce
manufacturing costs
