ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE

Students
➢ know how to use “to be” in negative, positive and question forms.
➢ know how to use Simple Present Tense, Present Continuous Tense.
➢ know subject-verb agreement
➢ know some basic physical features (such as blonde hair, big eyes, etc.) and some
personality characteristics (such as kind, clever, honest, etc.) in describing people.

Activities

Activity Activity Description (Teacher: T, Students: Sts, Student: St)

➢ Sts come to their English class. T asks her sts how they are and
how their weekend was.
T: My weekend was really good because I hanged out with my
best friend. She is Sevin. I really love her because she is very
friendly and kind. Also, she has got a very nice smile. She is
blonde and she has got long, straight hair. She has got green
Warm-Up eyes and she wears eyeglasses. Now, I will show you two of my
Activity friends’ pictures and I want you to guess which one is Sevin.
(10 minutes) ➢ After sts tell their guesses, T shows her friends’ names. Then, T
asks about the other person in the pictures.
T: Let’s look at Duygu. Has she got blonde hair? / Has she got
long hair? / Has she got straight hair? / Has she got a big smile?
/ Has she got green eyes? etc.
S: She hasn’t got blonde hair. She has got brown hair. / She has
got long hair. / She has got wavy hair. / She has got a big smile.

T: Now, I will distribute a paper to you. In this paper, you can


see some physical features such as blonde hair, big eyes, etc.
Also, there are some personality characteristics such as kind,
clever, honest, etc. I want you to read them, and find these
people from our class. You can write just one person for each
Introduction feature but if you can find more people, you can write their
(15 minutes) names. Also, you can write your names. After you finish it,
please don’t forget to complete the additional information part
about him/her. For instance: “She is beautiful, He is kind, etc”.
➢ After sts complete the chart, T asks sts to share their answers for
each physical feature and personality characteristics.

T: Now, we have a reading text about Tolga and Tolga’s best


friends. He has got four best friends at his school. In this text, he
explains his friends’ physical appearances. Read the text and
then write his friends’ names under the pictures according to
their physical appearances.
➢ After sts match the names with the photographs, T asks them to
Main Activity share their answers. They check the answers as a whole class.
(30 minutes) Then, T distributes a paper that includes True/False questions.
T: Now, read the questions. Mark the sentences T (true) and F
(false) according to the text. Correct the false statements.
➢ After sts finish the questions, T wants some volunteers to share
their answers. (If there is not any volunteer to say the answers of
the questions, T chooses the sts randomly or chooses the sts
from the list.)

➢ T: Now, we will play a guessing game. You will work with


your peers. I will distribute papers including 16 famous people.
First, you choose a famous person from the paper and don’t say
this person to your peer. Your peer tries to guess this famous
person by asking questions about this famous person’s physical
appearance to you. When your peer finds this famous person,
your peer chooses a famous person from the paper and doesn’t

friendly and I love to talk with my friends. I have many friends at my

friendly smile and she is cheerful.

and we often go to watch his matches. He is our favorite basketball player!
