3.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
3.1 Participants
This study was carried out with the participation of 50 sophomores majoring in the
faculty of foreign languages at Thu Dau Mot University. Their ages range from 19 to 21
years old and 10 of the 50 students were male. The participants are in the first semester of
the 2019-2020 school year. The questionnaire was designed for them and its result was
analyzed in order to find out the importance of friendship for good results in learning
English.

3.2. Data collection instruments

It is an apparent fact that questionnaire is one of the most useful tools to collect data. In
this study, the questionnaire was applied for 50 students who are studying English
majored in the second year at Thu Dau Mot University. The questionnaire for this study
included twenty questions with 5 general questions about the learners, 8 items about
internal and external factors that the participants have to respond to “yes” or “no”, 4
items about express satisfaction level and 3 items are the assessment about this research.
The result of this questionnaire was numerical statistics. The result of this questionnaire
was numerical statistics. According to Merriam (1998, p.5), the interview is the best way
to acquire important information from interviewers. To collect data, the ten participants
were invited to individual interviews in order to get more information about the
importance of friendship for good results in learning English.
