While the Pixies were playing a concert with Throwing Muses, they were
noticed by producer Gary Smith (Fort Apache Studios). He told the band he
"could not sleep until you guys are world famous." 4AD become one of the pixies
main record companies during the music career producing many of there albums
with them.
2. Elektra was another one of The pixies big record labels, and after the pixies
disbanded Elektra set out to produce a series of complimation albums of the
pixies.

4. A lot of The pixies chart success in their home country can be seen on the
billboard charts where they failed to be in the top 20 though in the UK they
managed to reach a high status becoming number 1 in the british download chat.
And It also placed on Q Magazine's 100 Greatest Albums Ever.

of the band members recalled: "The first place I made it with the Pixies was in

5. Though the band didn’t officially start until 86, the pixies were around before.
With two members of the band who worked together wrote songs on the subway
home from work everyday.
The pair formed a band in January 1986. Bassist Kim Deal joined Santiago and
Francis two weeks later[15] after responding to a classified advertisement
Francis had placed, seeking a female bassist who liked both folk music icons
Peter, Paul and Mary and the band Hüsker Dü.[16] Deal was the only person to
respond, but arrived at the audition without a bass guitar as she had never
played the instrument before.[17][18] She claimed her twin sister Kelley Deal had
a bass back in Dayton and that she had no money to get it. Francis lent her $50
for the airfare and Deal returned with the bass guitar.

6. Alternative rock was common in the usa, but in the UK become a hit when the
pixies were reconized as early pioneers of the newly formed music genre
Indie.This was partly down to them being part of a independent record label and
the style of music was reletivily new in the UK

Similar bands in term of genre and style are Sonic Youth, Dinisaur Jr and The
breeders (as said by LastFm) though many big fans of the pixies will say that
they are no bands like the pixies because of their unique musical style.

7. The Pixies are not a very well known band when it comes to the mases, With
the songs receiving little to no radio play. Though this could change with their
next album expected to be released in 2011, this could very well be down to the
fact that the band reached their peaked way back in the late 80’s and early 90’s,
then yet again this could change.
The target audience will then come down to their old fans, who would
have been in the 16-34 bracket, as well as having quite dark and cryptic lyrics
could be a mainly male audience. Which it now being just under 25 years since
the band started the old fan base could be quite old.
They is also a new fan base of people who will of heard of them here and their in
music magazines, on tv music channels and in unexpected places (such as
Media Lessons!) once again this will be a young adult demographic.

8. The pixies has had a very long and intresting careers, starting in 1986 and in
the space of 6 year they released 5 albums which is a lot seeing as lots of
modern band take years out to write a record. Doolittle was one of the bigger
releases and a turning point in the bands careers. By 1990 the band were going
downhill with little time between recording and touring and during the next 2
years the band went from talks of splitting to going on another tour, eventually
the band split up (the lead singer did this by faxing each of the band members
explaining the band was no more). During the 11 year Hiatus the band members
produced their own individual records with mainy of the members working on
each others.
In 03 they were talks of a reunion tour which sold out in a matter of
minutes and The band's four night run at London's Brixton Academy was the
fastest selling in the venue's 20 year history.[66] The 2004 reunion tour
reportedly grossed over $14 million in ticket sales.[67] followed by a series of
Festival headlining slots at such festivals as the local LEEDS FESTIVAL where
the band headlined with Iron Maiden and Foo fighters.
In late August 2008, Black Francis told NME.com that he might be willing
to return to recording with his former bandmates, saying "It's just a waiting game
right now. And in 09 the band got back together and in 2009 played a sold out 30
date tour of europe and the us in celebration of 20 years since Doolittle.
The bands most recent highlight was when they were playing a concert in Teatro
La Cupula in santiago on october 13 2010. 5 minutes before the show the band
were told all 33 trapped chillian miners were safe and at the surface so the band
tributed the concert to them and played a staggering 33 song set with one song
for each miner.

9. The band directed most of their own music video’s with no information on the
web of any directors working with the band.
• This is probably why most of their videos are very simple which most
being Performance. Though one notable example being Velouria which was the
song the pixies were going to play on Top of the pops. But because the band
were told the song needed a video they produced a simple concept video. 24
seconds of them running towards the camera on some rocks. Simples

10. This video was made in response to a part of the pixies career.
They were asked to perform on a American chat show but were told they would
have to mime the song, they refused and when it came to making the video for
this song, in a attempt to take the mick out of the talk show and the concept of
miming they have their mouth open instead of singing.

On a more technical side this video is a performance video, From a camera and
cinimatography angle its very simple and long takes, when it comes to the editing
that’s a bit more tricky. The style of the video including the mise en scene really
suits the surfer rock style that is present in the music. Performance videos are
very common with the pixies with nearly all of their videos being performance
here are few more examples.

11. Typical performance video when it comes to camera shots and that. Like
Here comes your man in the fact that the takes are slower then usually
performance videos. Set in a studio. None of the mise en scene is relevant to the
song in any way.

12. Another performance video, though the difference with this video compared
to the previous 3 is the fact that the song is much more fast paced and inturn the
takes are much more quicker.
The video is set in what looks like a wind tunnel because during the song
powerful winds and blowing into the band, you can see their hair flying
everywhere and wind blowing into their faces. Also during the video scientific
facts and equations pop up and this probally related to the setting, as far as I can
tell the lyrics don’t match the video.

13. This is another performance video but compared to the rest this is the most
different one, the video has very dark themes. The takes are much quicker and
for a performance video you don’t see the band as much as other performance
video, instead they are random clips such as someone's tongue and a nearly
naked man wearing one of those collars dog wear when they are not aloud to
scratch themselves. These themes will fit in with the style of the song though
really the lyrics have no significance to what’s happening on screen.

14. This video has a story behind it, the pixies were asked to perform on top of
the pops but were told they could only perform this song if it was a single and
had a video so the pixies grabbed a camera where to some rocks and filmed 24
seconds of them running towards the camera and stretched it to fit around the
song, unfortunately they didn’t perform the song in the end.

It’s a simple concept video with the band running towards the camera from one
static shot. That’s all they is to say about it.
