Overview
Extended Learning Time is the opportunity for students to increase learning, and to develop
skills academically. This is important because it allows for the opportunity for students to
increase their skills and knowledge in subjects such as reading, writing, and math. But recently
many schools are offering ELT classes in the arts and humanities classes because of the
rigorous objectives set forth in those classes. Providing an additional band class during this
time will allow students to focus on their craft.
Goals
1. Provide Additional Opportunities: T
he opportunities that can be provided are directly
related to the curriculum developed to increase the performance of the program.
Currently the classes are split up in small groups throughout the day, which enable the
students to get a more hands on approach to band, but an ELT for band would allow the
students to develop an ensemble sound.
2. Increase Knowledge: Increasing the knowledge of our students is the ultimate objective
of ELT, and providing a band formatted ELT will allow for students to be able to practice
their knowledge of the curriculum of not just playing, but their music theory and aural
skills.

The ultimate question is how would this class fit in the schedule of all of the others. The
ultimate specification that if we put 20-60 of the band children in this ELT it will balance the
current ELT of the band director which includes 20 children. This would not only balance, but it
would also provide the other ELT teachers smaller classes so that they can provide a much
more productive ELT to their students.
