Quality CNC systems provide easy manipulation of the machine
and many useful functions for the user.

Machine Axes
WFT 13 offers four linear and one rotary axis travel (X, Y, Z, W
and B). A full servo rotary table option allows continuous B-axis
rotation (contouring) simultaneously with X, Y, Z, or W axes.
During metal cutting, the column of the machine adopts Z-axis
movement and the workpieces are clamped on a rotary table
that travels in X-axis.
The Y-axis ball screw (diameter 80 mm), rigid column and
powerful headstock, further contribute to the precision and
rigidity of the machine. Other features such as Heidenhain linear
scales, standard spindle thermal monitoring system, and no slip
stick rotary table contribute to the high degree of accuracy.

Our 360°Rotation Hydraulic Bucking Unit is designed to safely
and efficiently make-up/break-out downhole tools and
motors. It adopts a unique 360°rotational headstock clamp
design. This unit is designed for fast, accurate and
dependable make up and break out of threaded connections,
greatly enhances the speed and accuracy of make-up and
break-out of tools.

1. Synchronized gripping force:- The headstock and tailstock


each contain five radially arranged heavy duty clamping
cylinders. It’s designed to ensure a continuous clamping range
so as to achieve synchronized gripping force on the tools and
precise axial alignment of the tools.

2. Enhanced work efficiency:- The 360° continuous
rotational headstock enables the make-up and break-out of
tools approximately 18 times faster than normal
conventional headstock design which are limited to a 40°
rotation per time.

3. Reduces damage on work piece:- With the unique


continuous rotational feature, only one clamping action is
required to achieve a 360° locking / unlocking of the
thread. This greatly reduces the number of times the work
piece has to be clamped, thus reducing clamping teeth
marks and damage on the surface of the work piece.

4. Precise Torque Application:- Its hydraulic system ensures


the accuracy of force applied on each piston cylinder, thus
ensuring the precision of torque force on the tools during
make-up and break-out

A North Sea gas producing well
has been closed in for
modification. Diagnostic testing
during this operation identified
that the 13‐ 3/8” lower Pack‐Off
seal was passing allowing pressure
from the C annulus to
communicate with the Pack‐Off
Assembly. Should the 13‐ 3/8”
upper Pack‐Off seal fail then the
13‐3/8” Void would pressurise,
leaving the well with only a single
isolation barrier.

Solution
GCC personnel already at location for
other, planned, operations, were able to
respond instantly and deploy Q-Seal
technology to restore integrity in the
13‐3/8” Pack‐off and provide a double
isolation barrier from the C annulus to the
13‐3/8” Void.

Result
The 13‐3/8” Pack‐Off Seal was stung before the job with a recorded
pressure of 140 psi. After injecting Q-Seal into the Pack‐Off Seal, a
successful pressure test at 1,000 psi for 15 minutes was performed.
The 13‐3/8” Pack‐Off Seal was then bled back to zero, and a
successful 30 minute pressure build up test confirmed full integrity
of the Pack‐Off Assembly. The Q-Seal had restored the integrity of
the 13‐3/8” Pack‐Off Seal providing a second barrier from the C
annulus. The entire operation took just 3 hours.

WAG Injection well was downgraded to water injection only
following identification of shallow leak from Outer Annulus to
Conductor, likely to be a thread leak, resulting in annulus fluid
discharge to environment. Costly and time consuming work required
to excavate and remove conductor casing in order to patch the
leaking casing.

Solution
Analysis is used to determine the leak path
and profile, and reduces or eliminates the
need to perform intervention such as caliper
runs for leak location.

This data is then used on site to engineer the Q-Seal solution to
repair the Surface Casing (Outer Annulus) to Conductor
communication, without having to excavate and remove surface
conductor, or retrieve the tubing and cut and pull casing.

Uptake™ technology - a novel fluid that has the ability to suspend


and carry solid particles (such as sand) and liquid particles (such as
oil), and maintain them in suspension in order to move, remove or
transport those particles. It comprises fibres often in a water-based
liquid, although this 'carrier' liquid can also be oil or non water
based.
Information Summary

Uptake™ is environmentally friendly, made from biodegradable


bio-fibres, which are non toxic to animals and plants.

Uptake™ has a much higher solid carrying capacity than Gels and
will keep them in suspension indefinitely or until separation is
required.
Uptake™ has a wide operating range with regard to Temperature (
above 200 degrees C) and is not affected by either strong Alkalis or
Acids ( pH range 1-14 )

LOW FLOW DEBRIS REMOVAL FROM A PIPE SYSTEM
Additional testing carried out for Shell Research - Flow Assurance in
Rijswijk led to an in-house study on the feasibility of debris removal
from pipelines at previously impossibly low flow rates. <0.5m/s.

We have engineered and developed a fibre which can successfully


lift, suspend and remove sand at rates as low as 0.01m/s, again this
is without the requirement for a PIG. Moreover, if at any point flow
is restricted or paused Uptake™ will keep the solids in suspension
with no drop off. The images below are stills taken from a small
video which recorded the sand removal.

A demonstration of Uptake’s
capability was carried on
19th June 2015 for
attendees from Shell.
Debris used for fouling of
pipeline
3 1/2” perspex tube was pre-
loaded with a mixture of
debris over a 3.5 metre
length:
2.5 kg sand
Representation of debris 2.0 kg pebbles
dispersal in pipeline 0.5 kg swarf
1.5 kg of sand and oil based
mud mixture.
This was pre-loaded into a test loop 3.5 m in length.
A short ~ 6 feet vertical section was at the end of the horizontal flow
loop.
A solution of water and 3% Uptake was pumped through the tube at
a flow rate of up to 500 l/minute ( 110 gpm giving a velocity through
the pipe of 1.5 m/sec (~ 5 feet/sec or ~ 300 feet/minute.)
Volume pumped was 120 litres (27 gallons).
This had been pre mixed in a tank.

This study focussed in particular on how
a shaker table would deal with
separation albeit on a small scale. These
are readily available on platforms in the
drilling department. Residue can be
handled like cuttings and transported by
skip to shore, or further separation on
the platform is also possible.

Conclusions
It is comparatively simple to separate the liquid and solid phases.
Sand sized particles are difficult to remove from the Biofibre ‘matrix’
using this shaker method.
Solid contaminants above 2mm can be removed relatively simply from
Uptake™ by using a spray bar.
The fibres do not block the screens irrespective of the mesh size.
Further work has been undertaken with regard to other methods of
separation such as dilution and compression, relevant information on
each can be provided.

Uptake™ Advantages

1- FLEXIBILITY: One system can be used to replace the conventional


pigging of lines but also clean lines which were never designed to be
pigged. (Removes the risk of stuck pigs eg Gannet A)

2- LESS EQUIPMENT: Use of existing Platform/ Rig equipment, reduces


reliance on specialist equipment and deck space.

3- LESS MANPOWER: One system for all pipework cleaning operations.

4- COST REDUCTIONS: Reduction in equipment and manpower, also in


the consumable materials. There are also cost reductions to be had in
cost/volumes of materials needed for clean-out and effluent produced
at process end.

5- IMPROVED LOGISTICS: Manpower and equipment reduction,


maximize the platform and drilling personnel usage. They know their
asset.

6- LOW RISK: Pumping operation can be halted at any point
without fear of solids drop-out. Not possible with gels!

7- WASTE HANDLING IMPROVEMENTS: drilling is already geared


up to backload cuttings this would be a logical adaption for drilling
equipment and processes.

8- PUMPABILITY: can be pumped in both directions and allows


debris and waste to be transferred

9- REDUCTIONS IN ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT AND HSE: No heavy


pigs to lift (Dropped objects) No complicated chemicals mixes
required. Biofibre is completely green. The recovered waste from
the pipelines dictates the HSE requirements

How do we use Uptake™ Biofibre

•The Uptake™ Biofibre is purchased in pails or pallets as


determined by the operation.

•Mixing is very simple it is mixed with whatever is the carrier


fluid – done in minutes.

•Slight agitation is required this could be from a paddle mixer or


from circulating on the tank.

•Any tank/tanks could be used to make up the bulk fluid.

•There is an option to ‘fly mix’ Uptake™ Biofibre however this is


not recommended at this point.

•Return volumes can be to the same tank and the Uptake™
Biofibre recirculated until pipework is clean.

•A constant check on the level of contamination will give


information on cleanliness achieved.

•Large volumes of uptake are easily made due to the low


concentration required 2% average.

contaminants show extremely dirty pipework and the need for
Extra cleaning operations.
