The DSP calculates the distance and speed in real time. It also calculates the power
from the solar array and the power to the motor from respective currents and bus voltage.
Subsequently, it calculates the total generated and used energy.
During periods of stationary charging, the solar array can be oriented toward the sun to
extract maximum power.

1.9.3 Naval Applications


Solar energy has many applications in the naval and ocean industry. Solar energy is espe-
cially used for autonomous underwater or undersea vehicles (AUVs). AUVs have a unique
capability in that they are able to transit in the ocean in three dimensions following a
