PAVEMENT DESIGN:

From California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test the value of CBR is found to be 4%.
Formulae:

As per IRC-37 (3.3.6.1),

𝟑𝟔𝟓[(𝟏 + 𝒓)𝒏 − 𝟏] × 𝑨 × 𝑫 × 𝑭
𝑵=
𝒓
Where,

N= the cumulative no. of standard axles to be catered for in the design in terms
of Million Standard Axles (MSA).

r= annual growth rate of commercial vehicles=5% per annum

A=initial traffic in the year of completion of construction in terms of no. of

commercial vehicles per day= 150

D=lane distribution factor = 75% (for two lane divided carriage way)

F=vehicle damage factor=1.5(As per IRC-37 table no 4.2 for rolling terrain
with 150 CVPD)

n=design period in years =20yrs.

Now,

[(𝟏 + 𝟎. 𝟎𝟓)𝟐𝟎 − 𝟏] × 𝟏𝟓𝟎 × 𝟎. 𝟕𝟓 × 𝟏. 𝟓

=2.04 msa

As per IRC recommendation for CBR of 4% and CSA =2.04 msa,

Total pavement thickness =540 mm

Granular sub-base course =265mm
