Feng Shui
And how they affect you
Shapes matter
Shapes matter in Feng Shui, because different shapes conduct the energy Qi in different
ways.
In such a way, regular shapes (squares and rectangles which are not particularly elongated)
conduct the Qi in harmonious ways.
Irregular shapes create both missing spaces and extensions, which in turn creates
imbalances in occupants’ lives.
When we talk of ‘missing spaces’ in Feng Shui, we are referring to missing corners or even a
missing mid-section from a property. On the other hand, an extension refers to a protrusion
or a section that ‘juts out’ from a property.
Deciding whether a property has a missing space or an extension depends on the size of the
missing or protruding feature, in relation to the side of the property which shows the
missing space or extension (missing less than ½ is a missing space; protruding less than ½ is
an extension). Moreover, it is not uncommon for a property to have both missing spaces and
extensions at the same time.
When a property’s shape is irregular, you have to find its physical center in order to be able
to identify the directions of the missing spaces (or extensions). Different missing spaces
affect the occupants of a property in different ways, but they always indicate some kind of a
shortcoming in peoples’ lives. Thus, a missing space is associated with something that is
hard to reach or find – at least within the bounds of the property.

Missing spaces are always Trigram-related, so connecting the Trigram to the person will help
provide additional information about the family dynamics. For example, when the Northwest
(representing the eldest male and breadwinner) is missing, it may indicate that the husband
– or the eldest male – is frequently absent from the household. This may be because he is
busy with his career or he may spend a lot of time traveling.
In terms of the extent of the influence of the missing space, its physical size dictates the
impact on the people in the house; the larger the missing space, the more it will affect them.

Missing Northeast
The general rule of thumb for the Period 8 (2004-2023) requires that the Northeast should
not be missing from a property, as it is closely related to stability. However, when the
Northeast is missing, the residents will tend to lack peace of mind, failing also to enjoy the
benefits of a stable life. This missing space has a particular affect on Life Gua 8 people.
Missing Northeast
When the Northwest is missing it will affect the eldest male, the breadwinner or a Life Gua 6
person in the home. A missing Northwest will weaken the eldest male, diminishing his
authority and negatively affecting his health. He may frequently be absent from home, due
to his career, or for some other reason.

Missing Southwest
The Southwest missing affects the eldest female in the household, the mother or a person
whose Life Gua is 2. A missing Southwest weakens the female energy in a home, diminishing
the role of the mother and affecting her presence and health. A missing Southwest can also
affect females’ fertility; hence this sort of property is not beneficial for women who want to
become mothers.

Missing East
A missing East will have the effect of making people less courageous; as a result, they may
find themselves wavering before making decisions. These people may tend to procrastinate,
because the missing East decreases their determination and leadership abilities. A missing
East mostly affects Life Gua 3 people.
Missing Southeast
Missing the Southeast causes people to be less willing to understand others and adjust to
change. This particularly affects Life Gua 4 people, who will not see this house as their
“home” and who will be more inclined to feel dissatisfied.
Missing West
A missing West affects people’s expressive powers, their speech and capacity to enjoy life.
This missing space will particularly affect Life Gua 7 people, diminishing their strength and
making them feel less important and less confident.
Missing South
A missing South always indicates a lack of warmth and passion in life. Every member of the
household will feel this absence as a lack of enthusiasm, but Life Gua 9 people will be
particularly affected. These people may find themselves uncomfortable at home, feeling like
they don’t belong, as well as experiencing a lack of energy.

Missing North
A missing North affects the vitality and reproductive powers of a property’s occupants. When
North is missing, this can also affect the kidneys, triggering water retention and-or possible
problems with the reproductive organs. This missing space has a particular affect on Life
Gua 1 people.
