Question No. : 50
The next ingredient is a very remarkable one: Good Temper. "Love is not easily provoked". Nothing could be more striking than
to find this here. We are inclined to look upon bad temper as a very harmless weakness. We speak of it as a mere infirmity of
nature, a family failing, a matter of temperament, not a thing to take into very serious account in estimating a man's character.
And yet here, right in the heart of this analysis of love, it finds a place; and the Bible again and again returns to condemn it as
one of the most destructive elements in human nature. The peculiarity of ill temper is that it is the vice of the virtuous. It is
often the one blot on an otherwise noble character. You know men who are all but perfect, and women who would be entirely
perfect, but for an easily ruffled quick-temper or "touchy" disposition. This compatibility of ill temper with high moral character
is one of the strongest and saddest problems of ethics. The truth is there are two great classes of sins—sins of the Body, and
sins of disposition. The prodigal son may be taken as a type of the first, the Elder Brother of the second. Now society has no
doubt whatever as to which of these is the worse. Its brand falls, without a challenge, upon the Prodigal. But are we right? We
have no balance to weigh one another's sins, and coarser and finer are but human words; but faults in the higher nature may be
less venial than those in the lower, and to the eye of Him who is love, a sin against love may seem a hundred times more base.
No form of vice, not worldliness, not greed of gold , not drunkenness itself does more to un-christianise society than evil
temper. For embittering life, for breaking up communities, for destroying the most sacred relationships, for devasting homes,
for withering up men and women, for taking the bloom off childhood; in short for sheer gratuitous misery-producing power,
this influence stands alone. Jealousy, anger, pride, uncharity, cruelty, self-righteousness, touchiness, doggedness, sullenness-in
varying properties these are the ingredients of all ill temper. Judge if such sins of disposition are not worse to live in, and for
others to live with than sins of the body. There is really no place in Heaven for a disposition like this. A man with such a mood
could only make Heaven miserable for all the people in it.
Excerpts from passages by Henry Drummond

Question No. : 64
My new mistress proved to be all she appeared when I first met her at the door- a woman of the kindest heart and feelings. She
had never had a slave under her control previously and prior to her marriage she had been dependent upon her own industry
for a living. She was by trade a weaver, and by constant application to her business, she had been in a good degree preserved
from the lighting and dehumanizing effects of slavery. I was utterly astonished at her goodness. I scarcely knew how to behave
towards her. My early instruction was all out of place. The crouching servility, usually so acceptable a quality in a slave, did not
answer when manifested toward her. Her favor was not gained by it; she seemed to be disturbed by it. She did not deem it to
be impudent or unmannerly for a slave to look in the face. The meanest slave was put fully at ease in her presence, and none
left without feeling better for having seen her. But alas! This kind heart had but a short time to remain such. The fatal poison of
irresponsible power was already in her hands, and soon commenced its internal work.

Very soon I went to live with Mr. and Mrs. Auld; she very kindly commenced to teach me the A, B, C. After I had learnt this, she
assisted me in learning to spell words of three and four letters. Just at this point of my progress, Mr. Auld found out what was
going on , and at once forbade Mrs. Auld to instruct me further, telling her that it was unlawful, as well as unsafe, to teach a
slave to read. Further he said, "If you give a slave an inch, he will take a mile. A slave should know nothing but to obey his
master - to do as he is told to do. Learning would spoil the best slave in this world. "Now," said he, "If you teach that boy
(speaking of myself) how to read, there would be no keeping him. It would forever unfit him to be a slave. He would at once
become unmanageable, and of no value to his master. As to him, it could do him no good, but a great deal of harm. It would
make him discontented and unhappy. "These words sank deep into my heart, stirred up sentiments within that lay slumbering,
and called into existence an entirely new train of thought. I now understood what had been to me a most perplexing difficulty -
the white man's power to enslave the black man. From that moment, I understood that pathway from slavery to freedom.
Though conscious of the difficulty of learning without a teacher, I set out with high hope, and a fixed purpose, at whatever cost
of trouble, to learn how to read. The very decided manner with which my master spoke, and strove to impress his wife with the
evil consequences of giving me instruction, served to convince me that he was deeply sensible of the truths he was uttering. It
gave me the best assurance that I might rely with the utmost confidence on the results which, he said, would flow from
teaching me to read. What he most dreaded, that I most desired. What he most loved, that I most hated. That which to him was
great evil, to be carefully shunned, was to me a great good, to be diligently sought; and the argument which he so warmly
urged, against my learning to read, only served to inspire me with a desire and determination to learn. In learning to read, I owe
almost as much to the bitter opposition of my master, as to the kindly aid of my mistress. I acknowledge the benefit of both.
Excerpt from Fredrick Douglass.

∴ Area of circle is more than the area of square.

So, the correct answer is option A.

QNo:-  7  ,Correct Answer:-  D

Explanation:-   We will solve this question in parts.

(i) Area of shaded region
= 576 - π (12)2
= 576 - 144π

(ii) Area of shaded region

= Area of quarter circle – Area of triangle

(iii) Area of shaded circle

= Area of circle – Area of 2 petals
= π (6)2 – 4 (9π - 18)
=  36π - 36π + 72 = 72

Thus area of 4 shaded circular regions = 72 × 4 = 288

Hence total shaded area of given figure = 576 - 144π+ 288 = 864 - 144π

QNo:-  8  ,Correct Answer:-  A

Explanation:-   The area of the 1st circle is 352 × π = 1225π.

The diameter of the circle becomes the hypotenuse of the triangle. So the sides of the triangle are 35√2 each and the semi-
perimeter of the triangle is 35(√2 + 1). If r is the in-radius of this triangle, then
½ × 35√2 × 35√2 = r × 35(√2 + 1)
⇒ r = 35 / (√2 + 1).
So the diameter of this circle is 70 / (√2 + 1) and this is also the hypotenuse of the 2nd triangle.
The sides of this triangle are 35√2 / (√2 + 1) each. So the area of this triangle is ½ × [35√2 / (√2 + 1)]2 = 1225/(√2 +1)2. The
required ratio is π(√2 + 1)2.

Percentage increase in profit = 3%.
Increase in A's share = 270.
Total increase in profits will be 270 * 10/9 = 300.

As it is given to be 3% of capital, hence the capital will be 300 * 100/3 = 10000. In that the capital of A is 9000. The remaining
1000 is the capital of B & C in two equal parts i.e. 500 each.

QNo:-  15  ,Correct Answer:-  1

Explanation:-

QNo:-  16  ,Correct Answer:-  28

Explanation:-
x2 + y2 = ( x + y )2 - 2 xy = 16 - 6 = 10.
x3 + y3 = ( x + y ) (x2 + y2 - xy ) =  4*7 = 28.
Alternate solution: (x + y)3 = x3 + y3 + 3xy(x + y).
So, 43 = 64
64 = x3 + y3 + 3 × 3 × 4
64 = x3 + y3 + 36
x3 + y3 = 64 - 36 = 28.

QNo:-  17  ,Correct Answer:-  0

Explanation:-
We have to find the remainder when (11997+ 21997+…+19961997) is divided by 1997. For this, we know that (an + bn) is divisible
by (a+b) if n is odd.
Thus, division of Ist and last term together with 1997 will give a remainder 0.
Similarly, 2nd term and second last term on division with 1997 gives remainder 0 and so on. In this manner, the sum of every 2
terms (one from start and other from end) will always be divisible by 1997, and hence the remainder for the whole expression is 0.

If a, b, c, d have five factors each, then they are all fourth powers of prime numbers.
Hence the number of the factors of the product of a, b, c and d are (4+1)(4+1)(4+1)(4+1), i.e. 625 factors.
Thus, answer choice 3 is correct.

QNo:-  19  ,Correct Answer:-  72

Explanation:-

QNo:-  20  ,Correct Answer:-  B

Explanation:-
Since the number is divisible by 9, the sum of its digits must be a multiple of 9.
Since, 45 + A + B is a multiple of 9, A + B = 9.........(i)
Now, as the number is divisible by 11, using divisibility test for 11 yields (22 + B) – (23 + A) is 0 or a multiple of 11.
This simplifies to (B – A – 1) is 0 or a multiple of 11.
The only possible value is 0.
So, (B – A) = 1................(ii)

Solving these equations (i) and (ii),we get A = 4 and B = 5.

QNo:-  21  ,Correct Answer:-  B

Explanation:-
This question is best solved by working backwards. In the 4th temple, 60 flowers are offered and then there are no flowers left. This
means that the person had 60 flowers, which were obtained by making the initial number 5-fold. Since 60 = 12 × 5, the person
had 12 flowers when he was entering the 4th temple. So, the person must have 12 flowers with him after offering 60 flowers in the
3rd temple. This means that he had 60 + 12 = 72 flowers in the 3rd temple. Working with the same logic as before, 72 = 18 × 4
implies that he had 18 flowers left after the 2nd temple, or, 60 + 18 = 78 flowers in the 2nd temple. Now, 78 = 26 × 3 implies that
he had 26 + 60 = 86 flowers in the 1st temple. Since 86 = 43 × 2, he had 43 flowers in the beginning.

In state A, 12% of 30 lakhs, i.e., 3.6 lakh are literate and women among them are 2/5th of 3.6 lakh, that happens to be
72000×2 = 144000.
So the company needs to print 144000 brochures of types A, B and C in the ratio 3 : 6 : 1. Thus the company must print (1/10) x
144000 = 14400 brochures of type C.

QNo:-  32  ,Correct Answer:-  D

After one year, one more teacher was added with age 54 years, so the total age of all teachers 3 years ago = 1217 + 24 + 54 =
1295 years. Now the present age of all teachers = 1295 + 75 = 1370 years.

To figure out what the missing words are, try to predict their definitions by using keywords from the prompt. In this prompt, each
missing word has its own keywords. The first missing word’s keywords are at the end of the sentence, where the prompt gives the
definition of the missing word as a work that involves “abundant extended metaphors.” The second missing word is contrary to
“abundant extended metaphors” and describes the “plot” of the work. Thus, the first missing word describes a type of work that
uses metaphor, and the second missing word implies the opposite of this figurative language. Therefore, the best choice is option 2.

Make sure that the numbers present are the smallest integers.
Minimum number of students of type A who were present = 6 (i.e. 24% of A)
Minimum number of students of type B who were present = 3(i.e. 75% of B)
Minimum number of students of type C who were present = 21(i.e. 42% of C)
Hence minimum number of students is 30.

QNo:-  93  ,Correct Answer:-  A

Explanation:-
Since 40% of the students were females, these constituted 32 students. So total number of students = 80 & total number of male
students = 48. Now since half the students were eitherexcellent or good, (number of average students) = (number of good students
+ number of excellent students) = 40. Hence number of excellent students = 40 - 30 = 10. Finally since l/3rd of male. students
were average, total number of male students that were average = (1/3 x 48) = 16 and hence total number of male students that
were good = (48 - 16 - 10) = 22. Based on the above revelations the following table can be drawn:

  Performance Total
  Average Good Excellent
Male 16 22 10 48
Female 24 8 0 32
Total 40 30 10 80

Number of students who are both female & excellent = 0.

Ratio of male to female among average students = 16:24 = 2:3.

QNo:-  96  ,Correct Answer:-  D

Explanation:-

The figure may be labelled as shown.

The simplest triangles are AHG, AIG, AIB, JFE, CJE and CED i.e. 6 in number.

The triangles composed of two components each are ABG, CFE, ACJ and EGI i.e. 4 in number.

The triangles composed of three components each are ACE, AGE and CFD i.e. 3 in number.

There is only one triangle i.e. AHE composed of four components.

Therefore, There are 6 + 4 + 3 + 1 = 14 triangles in the given figure.

Referring to the options, the only possible answer is KNOCKABOUT.

QNo:-  98  ,Correct Answer:-  B

Explanation:-
Suppose the three numbers are (2x – 2), 2x and (2x + 2). Mean is  middle number that is 2x. Then A.T.Q.  6x = 36 + 2x. Solving this yields x =
9. Therefore the second number must be 18.

6:00 a.m. Saturday to 12 noon Monday is 54 hours. In this time, the watch will lose 20 × 54 = 1080 seconds or 18 minutes.
So, The correct time will be 11:42 a.m.

QNo:-  100  ,Correct Answer:-  B

Explanation:-
The number of squares in the outer square is 12 + 22 + 32 + 42 = 30. The inner square (looks like a rhombus) will have 1 big and 4 smaller
squares. Thus 35 squares.

QNo:-  101  ,Correct Answer:-  C

Explanation:-
Consider rectangles of sides 1 and 2. There are 3 such rectangles in each row and column. So, there are 3 x 8 = 24 such rectangles.
Consider rectangles of sides 1 and 3. There are 2 such rectangles in each row and column. So, there are 2 x 8 = 16 such rectangles.
Consider rectangles of sides 1 and 4. There is 1 such rectangle in each row and column. So, there are 1 x 8 = 8 such rectangles.
Consider rectangles of sides 2 and 3. There are 2 such rectangles in each row and column. So, there are 2 x 6 = 12 such rectangles.
Consider rectangles of sides 2 and 4. There is 1 such rectangle in each row and column. So, there are 1 x 6 = 6 such rectangles.
Consider rectangles of sides 3 and 4. There is 1 such rectangle in each row and column. So, there are 1 x 4 = 4 such rectangles.
The extra figure given in the middle has 1 rectangle of 1 x 2 in each of the four rows i.e. total 4 rectangles.
Thus, no of rectangles = 24+16+8+12+6+4+4 = 74 rectangles.
Alternate Method:
The number of squares in the outer square is 12 + 22 + 32 + 42 = 30. The inner square (looks like a rhombus) will have 1 big and 4 smaller
squares. Thus 35 squares
Now, to get a square or a rectangle, we need 2 horizontal lines and 2 vertical lines. For the outer square, any 2 horizontal lines can
be selected out of the 5. Similarly, any 2 vertical lines can be selected out of the 5.
And,  for the middle figure, any 2 lines can be selected out of the 3.
Therefore, total no of rectangles + squares = 5C2 × 5C2 + 3C2 × 3C2 = 100 + 9 = 109
Hence, the no of rectangles = 109 - 35 = 74

QNo:-  103  ,Correct Answer:-  7

Explanation:-   If Kapil is interviewed in slot 1, then Jayesh must be interviewed in slot 2. We know that Pooja is interviewed in a
slot after Rahul and either Sayali or Trishla is interviewed in a slot immediately after Pooja. So, Rahul can be interviewed in slots 3,
4 or 5 and Pooja can be interviewed in slots 4, 5 or 6. Based on these, we can have the following possibilities for interviews in slots
1 through 7 respectively – KJRPSAT, KJRAPST, KJRASPT, KJRSAPT, KJARPST, KJARSPT, KJSRAPT, KJASRPT AND KJSARPT.
In all 9 possibilities, Trishla is interviewed in slot 7.

QNo:-  104  ,Correct Answer:-  5

Explanation:-   If Jayesh is interviewed in slot 3, then Kapil must be interviewed in slots 2 or 4. We know that Pooja is interviewed
in a slot after Rahul and either Sayali or Trishla is interviewed in a slot immediately after Pooja. So, Rahul can be interviewed in
slots 4 or 5 and Pooja can be interviewed in slots 5 or 6. Based on these, we can have the following possibilities for interviews in
slots 1 through 7 respectively – AKJRPST, AKJRSPT, SKJRAPT, AKJSRPT, SKJARPT, SAJKRPT, ASJKRPT.
Of these 7 possibilities, the last that Aditya can be interviewed is in slot 5.

QNo:-  105  ,Correct Answer:-  4

Explanation:-   If Jayesh is interviewed in slot 7, then Kapil must be interviewed in slot 6. Since Rahul is not interviewed in slots 1
or 2, and Pooja is interviewed in a slot after Rahul, the earliest that Rahul and Pooja can be interviewed is in slots 3 and 4
respectively. Since and either Sayali or Trishla is interviewed in the slot immediately after Pooja, we can conclude that Rahul and
Pooja must be interviewed in slots 3 and 4 respectively. Based on these, we have the following possibilities for interviews in slots 1
through 7 – ATRPSKJ, TARPSKJ, SARPTKJ and ASRPTKJ.
Thus there are 4 ways in which the interviews can be scheduled.
