Specifications of Datalogger

I. Introduction:
SASE, a research laboratory of Defence Research & Development Organisation
(DRDO) is involved in the study of Snow and Avalanches in the Indian Himalayas.
This establishment is interested in Datalogger for archiving and transmission of
snowmet sensors data from remote field location in the Indian Himalayas to RDC
SASE Chandigarh through GSM modem/M2M modem. The specification ofthe
datalogger is given in the subsequent
paragraph.

II. Datalogger Specifications:

The Datalogger will be a recorder & communication device for unattended
acquisition of remote snow and meteorological data. It will be used in remote areas
where regular maintenance and inspection of the instrument is difficult. Oatalogger
should have provision for quick and easy mounting in a NEMA-4X rated enclosure.

The heart of data logger will be a ATMega 2560 microcontroller or better suited for
this class of data loggers. The display of data logger should be easy to use. It should
provide a 2X16 LCD character display or better & 4 front panel control buttons,
making it very simple to view data & make minor Setup changes in the field. The
data will be retrieved using USB or SO memory cards. It should be possible to export
the data from the data storage file to Microsoft Excel.

A wide variety of sensors will be connected to the datalogger using built-in high-
precision analog & digital interfaces as well as via RS232, RS485, SOI-12, etc.
Datalogger should support a wide' variety of measurement types: single voltage,
differential voltage, RS-232, RS-485, and SDI-12. It will have communication serial
ports for built-in GSM modem, & other serial communication devices. It should have
Flexible Scheduling. Each measurement should be scheduled independently. The
sample scheduling can be set from 1 minute to 24 hours, in 1-minute increments.

The Datalogger should have an integrated dual band GSM modem for hourly
transmission of logged snow and meteorological data by SMS link. Single SMS data
sent should contain data for 05 hours (data of current hour and 04 hours prior to the
current hour) to ensure the redundancy of the data as per data frame in Table 2. One
time SMS Alarm for Power ON state should be sent to specific mobile numbers
which are configurable by the user. SMS can be transmitted in 'Text' j'POU' modes.
Modem can be enabled/disabled to conserve the power consumption as per site
conditions.
