A comprehensive methodology was developed in order to subsidize the composition of scenarios for DG

insertion in distribution system that would enable a reliable analysis over the technical impacts caused
on distribution networks. The main methodological steps are described as follows.

A. Distribution Feeder Data The methodology considered a complete modeling of the power
distribution system, including MV (13.8 kV) and LV sections (240/120 V, 220/127 V), MV/LV distribution
transformers (13.8/0,220 kV), protection devices and LV customers. The customer’s consumption was
represented by typical load curve profiles [2], considering customer category (industrial, commercial,
residential, etc.) and information from the billed energy. Through this detailed modeling of the power
distribution system, one is able to evaluate the impact on each power distribution equipment (such as
technical losses, loading profile, voltage level, etc.) due to the installation of μDGs. B. Electric modeling
of the load As stated before, the customers in the distribution system was modelled through their
typical load curve profiles. Thus, the typical load curve, for each customer in the power distribution
system, was calculated using their monthly energy consumption information. Figure 1 shows a typical
load curve profile for a residential client with energy consumption between 220 and 500 kWh per
month.
