PRESS NOTE
Nehru Outer Ring Road is 158km length 8 lanes access controlled express way with 2
lanes service road on either side. 156.9 km opened to traffic except 1.1 km at Kandlakoe.
Quality & Cost of construction high compared to National Highways. Closed type of toll
at 20 locations (19 interchanges) is under operation. Users are being charged based on
actual distance travelled. Intelligent Transport System such as Toll Management System
(TMS) and Highway Traffic Management System (HTMS) are being provided to ensure
quick and safe travel.

Unlike National Highways, urban expressways and state highways that are completely
independent of central funding have adopted toll rates that are significantly different from
NHAI norms.

HMDA/HGCL requested Government to enhance toll rates for ORR to meet the
Operation & Maintenance expenditure of ORR apart from serving the requirements of
loan repayment and annuity payments etc., duly comparing toll rates of other similar
projects in India such as Yamuna Expressway, Mumbai-Pune Express way. Government
approved HMDA recommended toll rates on 02.02.2017

The new toll rates are based on toll rates prescribed by NHAI for highway bypasses (1.5
times of NHAI base rates) and price sensitivity of traffic on ORR to the toll rates.
