Clinical thermometer

The clinical thermometer is used to measure human body

temperature.
A clinical thermometer consists of a long, uniform glass
tube. It has a bulb at one end. This bulb contains
mercury.
The range of a clinical thermometer is from 35oC to 42oC.
Human body temperature
The normal human body temperature is 37oC.
The temperature of human body normally does not go
below 35oC or above 42oC. That is the reason the clinical
thermometer has the range of 35oC to 42oC.

Laboratory thermometer
A device used to measure the temperature in the
laboratories is called laboratory thermometer.
The range of laboratory thermometer is from -10oC to
110oC.
Kink.
In clinical thermometer Mercury level does not fall on its
own, because there is a kink near the bulb to prevent the
fall of Mercury level.
But in laboratory thermometer Mercury level falls on its
own because no kink is present.
Digital thermometer
A digital thermometer is a thermometer with a digital
display making it easier to read the temperature.
Mercury is a toxic substance. Digital thermometers don't
use Mercury.
Conductors and Insulators
Conductors
The materials which allow heat and electricity to pass
through them easily are called conductors.
Examples : iron, copper, aluminium, gold etc
Metals are good conductors of heat and electricity.
Insulators
The materials which do not allow heat and electricity to
pass through them easily are called insulators.
Examples: wood, glass, rubber, paper, etc.
