On a kilometre distance east from the village raises the cliffy peak called “Gradishte”. It is a protruded peak of a long and narrow ridge stertching from south towards north. The sea level is 510-530 meters. On the northern part of Gradishte lies a ter- race, while the terrain under it is a steep plane, where people nowadays grow grape-vine. The necropolis lies exactly there.! The western side diclines in a deep furrow of a dry stream, The eastern side of Gradishte is a cliffy precipice that diclines in a stream furrow, deep under the peak. The southern end slightly continues on creating a narrow crest that gradually climbs towards the massif of the Vodno mountain. An underground plumbing was passing by the crest for the needs of the established settlement.2 According to the findings in Gradishte and the vicinity: tegulae a Corinthian type, coins, stone foundations, metal objects, ceramics, ' 1, Mikuléik, Skopje so okoinite wvrdini, Skopje 1982, 16. 2 ¥. These are the reasons why this fort was named as a late, small antique established settlement, 300-400 meters on the north-west of Gradishte-Gorno Nerezi, there is a lower flat hill where people nowadays grow grape-vine Between the plane (mentioned in the text above) and the hill stretches a deep temporar- ily dry stream that surrounds it from the east- ern and northern side. The western side slight- ly descends towards an accessible asphalt road leading from Sredno Nerezi - Gorno Nerezi - the old Gorno Vodno - the old lower Vodno. According to the talks I had with one of the owners of the vineyards, about twenty tombs were excavated on the very hill for a better income from the grapes, as they said. On the surface itself we can notice fragments from the Corinth teguli, diverse pottery and also some coins, probably as contribution for the deceased (obol/stips). According to the plates that the owners used to set boundaries of the vineyards, it can be concluded that the tombs were cysts from roughly carved stone plates and probably also cysts of Corinthian type of tegulae. On the southern part of the site which was not excavated for the vineyard, there is a pedestal of a tombstone. It is roughly treated and in the middle of the upper side there is an opening where surely was some ledger ele- ment. The pedestal is made of stone-sand, taken from the near surrounding. Pieces of bones of the deceased can also be noticed on the very surface. “MOBILE FINDINGS Concerning the mobile archeological mate- rial on the very surface of the hill, while drop- ping in there I found a curved fibula, about ten coins, fragments from ceramic dishes and tegulae. Apart from the western part of the Balkan Peninsula where this fibula was rare, it is more frequent in Upper Moe (Moesia Superior) and northern Macedonia.> The material they were most frequently made of was bronze, massively casted and some of them gilded. They were finished in a technique of engraving and nielo. They were a male ornament and were used for buttoning up and had a function to mark the military hier- achy. The most similar samples were found on the localities of Scupi,4 Drachevo,5 Kamnik,® and so forth, The sample is a bronze, cruciform fibula, massively casted, weight 54,39 gr, in a well preserved condition. The leg on the fibula is decorated with ten carved small rings set in two groups, six at the end and four towards the curve. Along the middle of the leg is a decoration of fish bone in a technique of carv- ing and filled with some kind of glass - paste While under the leg there is a partially pre- served buckle. The decoration with the fish bone also continues on the curve. The shoul- ders shown on the fibula are cascaded and curved in the ends. The central curve and the needle are missing. 3 1 Mikuléik, Docnorimski grobovi od Skupi, Godien zbornik 1a Filozofskiot fakultet vo Skopje, vol. 26, Skopje 1974. 41. Mikuleik, op. cit. 136 5B. Coins The circulation of coins on the territory of the Republic of Macedonia has from always been wide- ly spread, from the beginning of antique until now. This especially happened in the period of the 4th century A.D. when the Roman Empire in some way achieved its culmination. The number of mints was enlarged except those in Constantinople and Thessalonica, Other mints appeared in Siscia, Cyzicus, Alexandria, Carthage, Aquileia and many others. It is characterized with a good structure, red baked, painted in red polish and resistent on changes. It is decorated or if used for the cuisine, simple without any pecular- ities. The form of the ceramics is synthesis from the new Roman influences and the local ceramic production. Most characteristic forms of dishes are pots, deep and shallow plates, jugs, dishes with two or three handles, cups with one handle and many others. The ceramic dishes found on the site are from a local character and not so qualitative clay which is mixed with tiny quartz stones and lis- cun, The “S” profile appears in almost all the dishes. The baking is solid, red shaded and red polished, barely recognized now. The found sam- ples fi different pots, wide plates, jugs and many others were used in the household, too. The frag- mental ceramics can be placed in the 4th, 5t% and 6t" century. CONCLUSION Based on the found samples it can be con- cluded that there is a necropolis at this site that probably belonged to Gradishte - Gorno Nerezi. The findings show that the necropolis was used in the second half of the 4' century. contact Igor Tolevski a candidat B.A. (archaeol) Institute for Art Histiry and Archaeology Faculty of Philosophy Skopje T Tolevski 79
