BODY MASS INDEX -BMI

Measures Body Fatness

There is no single perfect weight for a person of a specific height but a range.
Very muscular people are heavier than fat people. Muscle tissue is denser and therefore
heavier than fat tissue.
A ratio of 18.5 – 24.9 is considered to be healthy and therefore in the ideal weight range.
It is calculated by dividing weight in kilos by metres squared.

BMI Calculation Method

- Multiply height in metres by itself

- Divide weight in kilos by the answer
- e.g. a person of 1 meter 70 cm tall who weighs 70 kg is calculated 1.7 X 1.7 = 2.89
- 70kg divided by 2.89 equals 24.22

This example shows ideal BMI.
