OBJECTIVES:
1. Estimate the pH of common household commercial products
2. Classify common household commercial products as acidic, basic or neutral

Materials and Equipments :

Test tubes / vials ,
One Household commercial products per group : Vinegar., sprite, 7-up, liquid sosa, calamansi juice, feminine
wash, clean nail polish, baking soda, lye(lihiya), toilet bowl cleaner, car battery acid

Experimental Procedures
1. Measure 4 ml of each commercial products and transfer into the corresponding vials/ test tubes. Add drops of
phenolphthalein indicator to each test tube/ vials and take note the color of the resulting mixtures. Classify the
commercial products as ACIDIC, NEUTRAL or BASIC according to its pH level.
(NOTE: As an indicator of the pH of a solution, phenolphthalein is colorless at pH 0-8.2 and attains a pink color at
pH 8.3-12.0.)

DATA CALCULATIONS :
(NOTE: As an indicator of the pH of a solution, phenolphthalein is colorless below pH 8.0 and attains a deep red
hue above pH 10.0.
