Draw a diagram with activities on arrows fully explained, knowing that the project
must be completed in a minimum of time and show the critical path.
The project manager found that in the 18 week from the start of the project all the
activities are in time planned, exept the activity A4, which is carried out at a rate of 30%.
What is the percentage should be performed A4 at this moment? Calculate the corrected
duration of A4, considering that there are no more delays. Draw the updated network
assuming the other activities remain according to the initial schedule, showing what are
the free slack of the activities in a Gantt chart.
Solution
Fig.1. Diagrama cu activităţi pe săgeţi

The A4 activity lasts from 11 to 30 having a duration of 20 weeks.

20 weeks ............... 100%
1 week ............... 5%
The 18 week is the eighth from the start of A4, so in this week A4 had to be completed in
40% (5 x 8), but according to the schedule it is completed at the rate of 30%, which
means a delay of 10%, which is equal with duration of two weeks. So A4 activity has a
corrected duration of 22 weeks.

Aplication 3
In the table below are given the activities of a project with their duration:

Activities Duration, Predecessor

(weeks)
A1 20 -
A2 5 -
A3 15 -
A4 7 A2
A5 25 A1, A4
A6 10 A3, A5
A7 10 A6
A8 10 A1, A4
A9 25 A3, A5

Draw a diagram with activities on arrows fully explained, knowing that the project is
completed in 70 weeks and show the critical path.
The project manager found that in the week 49 from the start of the project all
activities are according to the schedule, except A6 and A9 activities, which are made at
the rate of 20% and 8% respectively. What is the percentage that had to be made at this
time? Calculate from this moment the corrected duration of these activities, considering
that there are no more delays. Draw the updated network, assuming all the other activities
remain according to the schedule. Show the free slacks of activities in a table.
Solution
Fig.6. Reţeaua proiectului
The reasoning is the same as the previous problem
Activity A6 lasts from 46 to 55 week with a duration of 10 weeks.
10 weeks ............... 100 %
1 week ............... 10%
4 weeks ............... 40%
The week 49 is the fourth week from the beginning of A6, so in this week this activity
should be completed at a rate of 40% ( 4 x 10), but it is completed at a rate of 20% ,
which means a delay of 20% (40 % -20 % ), which is equivalent to a duration of 2 week.
So A6 activity has a corrected duration of 12 weeks.
Activity A9 lasts from 46 to 70 week with a duration of 10 weeks.
25 weeks ............... 100 %
1 week ............... 4%
4 weeks ............... 16 %
The 49 week is the fourth since the start of A9, A9 work this week so had to be
completed at a rate of 16% ( 4 x 4), but it is completed at a rate of 8% , which means a
delay of 8 % (16 % -8 % ), which is equivalent to a period of two weeks, so A9 activity
has a corrected duration of 27 weeks.

a) Draw and analyze a network on nodes for this project, assuming that it should be
completed in 30 weeks. The chart should include a single start node and a single end
node.
b) Identify which activities has free slacks and show its value.

Solution
a)

The network of project

b)Activities with free slacks are: B, E, F, G.

Activities A B C D E F G
