Blockchain: Part1 Introduction

This is an attempt to understand the basic concepts of Blockchain. I will publish series of articles
on what I have understood, on weekly basis (hopefully).

You would have come across many articles explaining (or miss-explaining) Blockchains and Crypto
and Bitcoins etc. I tried doing that but nowadays challenge is NOT to get the information but to
arrange it in coherence.

So let’s go, let’s learn. Ready?

Blockchain as a concept has been evolving since early 90’s; so there are many concepts which are
tied to this whole package. The whole stack of such path breaking technologies is what make
Blockchain a beautiful idea, I guess, and it is NOT applicable everywhere (more on the
applicability later).

Below shown is one part of mind-map of the whole concept and we will go from outwards to
inwards (as shown by the direction of the arrow in red). Example: We will learn something on
Hash Functions and then we use that learning to understand the anatomy of a block. We will
digest this whole mind-map on piece-meal basis; I know everyone is on some form of diet
nowadays.

So overall, we will understand:

▪ WHAT is Blockchain?
▪ HOW is it made?
▪ WHY does it exist?
▪ FOR WHOM Blockchain makes sense?
▪ WHY does this universe exist? (just kidding)

I am aware that there are many notions floating around Blockchains and Bitcoins in the market
that it’s a fraud; one should stay away from it. I don’t intend to tackle such questions in this series
BUT I unintentionally might. Let’s see how it goes.
