Educational Issues : Bullying

Bullying is when people repeatedly and intentionally use words or actions against
someone or a group of people to cause distress and risk to their wellbeing. These
actions are usually done by people who have more influence or power over someone
else, or who want to make someone else feel less powerful or helpless. Bullying is not
the same as conflict between people (like having fight) or disliking someone, even
though people might bully each other because of conflict or dislike.

Bullying can happen at school, at home or online. It is never okay and it is not a
normal part of growing up. Bullying creates a culture of fear and has a negative impact
on everyone involved. Kids who are bullied can experience negative physical, school,
and mental health issues. They are more likely feel disconnected from school and not
like school, miss school, and not complete Year 12, have low self-esteem , have
nightmares and etc. Kids who bully others can also engage in violent and other risky
behaviors into adulthood. They are more likely to abuse alcohol and other drugs in
adolescence and as adults, Get into fights, drop out of school and etc. Bullying is a very
stressful ordeal, one that many people find it hard to speak about. Those being bullied
continually ask why me? They may feel ashamed and embarrassed that they are not
standing up to the bully and deal with what is happening to them. Bullying can have
devastating effects on a person which can last into adulthood. At its worst, bullying has
driven children and young people to self-harm and even suicide.

Bullying is WRONG. It’s never ok. It’s never makes you look good by doing it.
Bullying is a depressing and important topic. Be the person that is smart enough and
confident enough to be friends with everyone you meet. Bullying can only stop if people
voice their opinion about it. Be nicer and be a good role model.
