About the Author

Dr. Benjamin J. Gonzales was born in Iloilo City, Philippines in 1957


and migrated to Puerto Princesa City, Palawan in 1982. His interest in

studied in the University of the Philippines, where he completed his


Bachelor of Science in Fisheries.

National Agriculture College (PNAC) now Western Philippines
University (WPU) in 1982.

He began his intensive works in Ichthyology when he pursued his Master


of Science in Marine Biology at the Kochi University, Japan in 1994. He
was awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy in Fish Ecology and Population
Genetics by the United Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Ehime
University in 1997 for his work on Ecology and Genetic Studies on the
Biodiversity of Dragonets in Southwestern Japan.

the local governments, NGOs, and communities on coastal management

and marine biodiversity of projects funded by local and international

Development and Extension of the Western Philippines University.
