William Shakespeare Biography: William Shakespeare, everyone knows that he was a


famous English poet. Shakespeare wrote many English novels poet and poems, Some of
the poets and novels were acted roles in movies of Bollywood. Firstly he acted as a
dramatist in some Areas but after that, he wrote stories of dramas not only a writer he
also acted as all roles. He can write anything that as a story in English he was a very
famous novelist in the world. Shakespeare also spelled as Shakspere. He was known as
Great Famous English Poet, Dramatist and Actor often called the English National Poet
and considered by many to be the greatest dramatist of all time. He wrote Many Poets,
Poems and also roles which play in dramatists. His many works are about Love, Death,
Revenge, Murder, Life and Magic, Mystery. Shakespeare used an iambic pentameter to
write dialogues for the character which plays an important role. He used 15000 words
and wrote PURE ENGLISH. He was often called "THE BARD OF AVON"(simply known as
Bard).

Shakespeare was born at Stratford-upon-Avon, on 23rd April 1564. Traditionally day was
known as SAINTS GEORGE'S DAY three days earlier of his birthday. He took baptized on
26th April 1564 at Holy Trinity Church in Warwickshire. Shakespeare was the Third child
and Eldest son in their family.

ABOUT HIS FAMILY:

* FATHER: John Shakespeare, prosperous gloves and leather merchant. In 1565, he was
elected as OLDERMAN of the Town and in 1568, he became a high
bailiff(mayor) of Stratford.
* MOTHER: Mary Arden.
* SPOUSE: Anne Hathaway, she was 8 years senior to Shakespeare. And they got
married in NOVEMBER, 1582, at that time he was 18 years old and
she was 26 years old.

1)Susanna Hall, born in May 1583, and baptized on 26th May.
2)Judith Quinney
3)Harriet Shakespeare
Judith and Harriet were Twins in 1585 [ Baptized on 2nd February 1585].
Harriet died at the age of 11, in August 1596.

EDUCATION:
At the age of six or seven he went to school which was very near to his house on the
street name Henley street, Stratford "The Local Grammar School" Named KING EDWARD
VI, Stratford, England. In that school, he learned "Small Latin and less Greek".He has
discontinued his education and plays an important role in writing poets and etc.,

CAREER IN THE THEATRE:


He went to London to start his career life by acting dramas or writing poets.
The first reference to Shakespeare in the literary world of London comes in 1592. How hs
career in the theatre began is unclear, but from roughly 1594 onwards he was an
important member of the Lord Chamberlain's Company of players (called the king's men
after the accession of James I in 1603).
Best Actor: Richard Burbage;
Best Theatre: The Globe;
Best Dramatist: Shakespeare;
Shakespeare first popularised the names Olivia, Cordelia, Jessica, and Miranda. He
occupies a position unique in world literature. Other poets, such as Homer and Dante
and novelists such as Leo Tolstoy and Charles Dickens have transcended as national
barriers.

Shakespeare belongs to Two ERAS:-


1)Elizabethan Period(1558-1603)
2)Jacobean Period(1603-1625)
William Shakespeare himself acted as an actor in the following two plays:
* Benjonson's - "Everyman in his humor"
* His plays were - Father is a ghost in Hamlet
Adam in As you like it
John Falstaff in Henry IV

PUBLICATION OF HIS PLAYS :


Shakespeare's plays were printed during his lifetime in 'Quartos'.
QUARTOS:- Folio which was printed as smaller books called quartos. Books, each
containing one play and made up of sheets of 8 pages of text were printed each folded
twice to make four leaves.
FOLIO:- The term folio refers to the Large size of paper. It was usually saved for

documents like royal proclamations, history and etc., in which each sheet of paper is
folded once in half, to give two leaves.
It was estimated that around 750+ First folios were printed, of which 233 were currently
known to survive worldwide.

The Four Folios were important in his lifetime:


1st - 1623
2nd - 1632
3rd - 1663
4th - 1685
First Folio was printed on 8th November 1623. It contains 900 pages of which contains
36 plays out of 37. John Heminges and Henry Condell, two actors in Shakespeare
company, based on this company they collected together texts and published them in a
large folio. the second folio was also printed and published by these companies. Pericles
was published in the 3rd folio in 1663. There are Four Periods during Shakespeare from
[1588-1612].

Ist PERIOD:[1588-1596]
In this period Shakespeare wrote many poets and love Tragedies and other dramas
stories. William Shakespeare Biography, Among all the poets and love tragedy Romeo
And Juliet, was one of the famous stories everyone knows about the love in that
romance. Not only Romeo and Juliet but also the tragedy of HAMLET, Prince of Denmark
story became very famous throughout the world and these stories were acted now in the

1st poem was published in this period.
But the name was not printed. It is a period of great rapid growth and developed during
this period. He wrote great comedies & chronicle plays, characters, etc.,

John Milton was a poet who wrote the 1st poem which was printed and published.
Nearly,17000 changes were in these periods.

IIIrd PERIOD:[1601-1608]
This period was known as the Supreme masterpiece period. He was full of maturity in
this period. His works were discussed in the below:
"As you like it" or "what you will"
"Much Ado About Nothing"
"The Twelfth Night"
Not only poems and poets but also Great tragedies and comedies were are the works of
the Shakespeare like All's well that ends well, Troilus and Cressida, and Measure for
measure.some of the Great Tragedies was 'Hamlet','Julius
Ceasar','Macbeth','Othello','King Lear'.

IVth PERIOD:[1608-1613]
This fourth period was about a full love tragedy and comedies made by the
Shakespeare,[Antonus & Cleopatra]was the love tragedy and "Pericles", "Henry VIII",
"Times of Athens", "Coriolanus".This period was a reawakening of the 1st love romance
in "The Tempest", "Cymbeline", "The Winter's Tall".

Shakespeare's Famous Poems :

Shakespeare Wrote Poems and Poets, comedies, dramatists, Histories and Tragedies.
Some of the important poems of his were:
1)VENUS AND ADONIS[1593]
It was a very long narrative poem and it was the 1st publication. This story was about
love and trust. Here Venus (Goddess of Love) and Adonis(Handsome Youngman) based
on these characters the story was designed by him.
2)THE RAPE OF LUCRECE[1594]
It was addressed to earl of Southampton. In this Lucrece was raped by Tarquin.
Tarquin was Roman solider and Lucrece was the wife of Collatine.

*1564- Shakespeare Birth on 23rd April 1564.


*1584- Shakespeare Left his Native Town.
*1592- Shakespeare First Appearance as an actor.
*1610- Shakespeare Left London for Stratford-upon-Avon.
*1616- Shakespeare Died on 23rd April 1616.
Shakespeare Birth And Death Date the same and it is easy to remember for us. At the
age of 52 he died at Stratford-upon-Avon. He plays many roles and characters in his
lifetime. Among those few are discussed in the below:
