2015. “WOMEN’S PARTICIPATION IN RICE PRODUCTION IN
SELECTED BRANGAY OF BULA CAMARINES SUR.”

The study was conducted to determine women’s

participation in rice production in selected barangays of

Bula, Camrines Sur. The data was obtained using an

interview guide. A descriptive method of research was

used in interpreting the data.

On the socio- economic characteristics of women

respondents the results showed that 60% of the

respondents belonged to the age of 51 years old and

above. Twelve or 40% of them have household members of 4

and below. Thirty percent (30%)of the respondents were

high school graduate, four (4) or thirteen percent reach

college level and one (1) or three percent of the

respondents is college graduate. The data implies that

the educational attainments of the respondent are

relatively high. Eighty seven percent (87%) were married

and general (83%) were Roman Catholic. All of them were


members of various organizations with farming experienced

of 6-16 years and above. Majority (80%) of them were

owner cultivator with less than one hectare devoted to

rice production. The highest yield of rice is 80 cavans

and the lowest was 40 cavans per hectare.

Women assumed various roles in rice production. On

top of being mothers and wives, they were also farmers in

their own right. Women fulfilled many responsibilities at

farm. Their role was mostly recognized in the following

field activities (1) Planting; (2) weeding; (3) sowing;

(4) transplanting ; (5) harvesting and drying. In post-

harvest activities, women’s role was recognized in

marketing the palay.

Based from the data gathered, women participated in

rice production because it supplemented the income of the

family and it lessens the farm expenses of the family.

The role of women was highly significant to the

different farm activities.
