This sample library is of a Samick upright piano where the strings were muted by

hand as the keys were pressed. This effect is more noticable in the low and middle
registers, as the space between the hammers and the edge eventually became to tight
to mute without stopping the hammers when approaching the top register. The effect
is also most pronounced at higher velocities, which allows for a very dynamic
sound. It is sampled every augmented fourth interval from C0 to C7, and in three
velocity layers (p, mf and f) for the sustain pedal raised layer, as well as two
velocity layers (p and mf) for the sustain pedal pressed layer. Personally I found
it best to layer the pedal on and off samples and blend them by tweaking the attack
time of the pedal down layer, but there is a lot of room for experimentation in
this regard. There is also an assortment of key release samples as well as a few
snippets of silence that hopefully will be of help in the event of noise reduction
processing.

The piano itself is located in a rehersal room at the Norwegian Institute of

Science and Technology (NTNU), and it was recorded with a stereo pair of AKG C214s
into a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 2nd gen.

All samples should have a run up time of one beat at 120bpm (500ms) before the key
hits.

This version of the library also includes a Kontakt version of the instrument. Huge
thanks to Clay LaHatte for providing this.
