What we receive is only an image. ‘The idea of studying Xiang Shu Yi Xue is to make the image clear to see how colors can be added to make it beautiful The Origin of Xiang Shu Yi Xue ‘The development of Xiang Shu Yi Xue can be traced as far back as to ZI la (507 - 400 B.C.E.) who was one of the more important disciples of Confucius (651 - 479 BCE). The important disciples of Confucius were experts in various fields. Zi Xia was, versed in literature. Confucius was of the opinion that Zi Xia would be his successor who could glorify his teaching. After Confucius died, Zi Xia became the teacher at Xi He and the Earl of Wei was among nis students. Although the Ten Wings develops into philosophical teachings, the use of the Twelve Xiao, Xi Cua += 248 4h to interpret certain hexagrams, advocates that the Yi ving is @ book for divination. Ancient Yi scholars tried hard to assign a hexagram to the days ina year If one year is a multiple of 64 days, it would be ideal. If itis a muttiple of 60 days, we can stl get around. The problem is, even the ancients were aware of the fact that one year had 365 % days. Dividing 365 % by 60, we get 6 and 7/80. Removing Kan, Li, Zhen and Dui from the 64 hexagrams because they represent the four pure hexagrams in the cardinal directions, then every hexagram is assigned 6 and 7/80 of a day. This is the key teaching of West Han scholar Meng Xi Jing Fang The most influertial person in the development of Xiang Shu Yi Xue is Jing Fang ERE . Aoparently there were two different Yi scholars having the same. name Jing Fang who contributed incependently to xiang Shu Yi Xue. However, it is the common consensus of opinion that the Jing Fang who lived between 77 BCE. and 37 BCE is the important person responsible for the major work in Xiang Shu Yi Xue,ving Fang was originally known as Li Jun Ming. He changed his name from Li Jun Ming to Jing Jun Ming according to the musical note. He learned Yi from Jiao Yan Shou, who was another important character in the development of Yi in the West Han Dynasty Jiao predicted that Jing Fang would die because of the knowledge he got fram him. In the beginning, Jing Fang was the emperor's favorite officer for his knowledge in divination. In Lian Shan Yi (Xia Yi), the hexagram Gen heads the 64 hexagrams.
