Pollution is one of the biggest global killers, affecting over 100 million people, almost

comparable to global diseases like malaria and HIV (Do Something, 2015).

In many developing countries 90 percent of waste water and 70 percent of industrial waste is
discharged without treatment (Reinertson, 1999). Waterborne pathogens, in the form of disease-
causing bacteria and viruses from human and animal waste, are a major cause of illness from
contaminated drinking water (NRDC, 2018).

Water pollution is one of the two major pollutions in the world and Escherichia coli are
abundant in most polluted waters (Who, int., 2019). Escherichia coli are one of the most abundant
pollutants found in waters. The world is in the verge of spreading diseases brought by contaminated
waters. One of the most common bacterium involved is Escherichia coli. Most indigenous places use
water from contaminated lakes even if they know that it is polluted (Who, int., 2019). Escherichia coli
cause diarrhea, stomach cramps, vomiting and nausea. (HealthLink BC, 2019).

Despite the numerous studies on Pasig River, other polluted waters were not involved during
the study. Sample was only taken one time, providing less accuracy for the amount of E. coli at different
times.
