ABSTRACT

Many cities are facing unprecedented growth, bringing major challenges as

they seek to remain sustainable, healthy and safe places for people to live and work.
In addition, saving energy is a necessary demand. Hence, it is necessary to develop
techniques to address these demands by measuring and monitoring the whole city.
The collected information should be exchanged and processed to control traffic flow,
activating power saving mechanisms, achieve safety for citizens and reduce
pollution and provide all the required services to ease life. An intelligent solution,
that is recently emerged is The Internet of Things (IoT). This technology offers new
opportunities for cities to use data to manage traffic, cut pollution, make better use
of infrastructure and keep citizens safe. IoT is simply a network for all sensors,
controllers, data analysis subsystems, and any device that is physically capable to
connect, like vehicles or home appliances, that enable these 'things' to connect and
exchange data. This huge network may be assembled by the Internet.

In this project we introduce an implementation for and IoT based smart city. Many
sensors, controllers and actuators are connected, together, by a network. The data
collected from the interconnected sensors are processed using an Arduino board. A
mobile application “Blynk” which is a hardware agnostic IoT platform with
customizable mobile apps is used to connect the local network to the Cloud.
