OBJECTIVE:

To know the proper procedure on how to do the soil sampling,

labeling and proper storage.

DISCUSSIONS:

Soil sampling, labeling and storage is a part of the

laboratory experiment of the soil mechanics laboratory.

MATERIALS/APPARATUS:

1. Soil
2. Jar
3. Soil Auger
4. Hand shovel
5. Parafin wax
6. Pen
7. Sticker paper

PROCEDURES:

1.Gather all the materials to be used.

2.Find the proper location where the soil sample should be

taken.

3.Use the soil auger to dig a hole at least 2.5ft deep.

4.Use the hand shovel to fill the jar with the soil taken from
the bottom of the hole.

5.Use the gravel to fill the taken soil space and put the
excavated soil back into the hole.

6.Wash the outer part of the jar then cover it with this cap.

7.Label the sticker paper with the essential data.

8.Pour the Parafin wax carefuly around the cap of the jar to
seal the sample.

9.Wait till the wax solidify.

10.Then put the sticker paper on the jar.

GENERALIZATION:

For this experiment, I have learned that getting the soil

sample is not easy. Because you have to find a better location to
bore a hole for at least 2.5ft. Finding a location is also
difficult, you may find a good location but for boring a hole, it
may have a rock underneath or anything that cause you to cannot dig
properly.
