E1) Simple coaxial cable: Model a coaxial cable with Z0 = 50 , inner conductor radius a = 1 mm and length of

100 mm. Use PEC and Teflon as materials. Then observe the following.
1. S-parameter behavior for various port impedances say Z0port=10 ohm , 50 ohm and 90 ohm
2. Plot and animate the E and H-field and establish TEM mode.
3. Animate E-field or H-field and observe travelling and standing waves for Zp=10 ohm and 50 ohm
4. Use parametric sweep to optimize the outer diameter of the coax to get Z 0 = 50 Ohm exactly by monitoring
the S-parameters.
E2) Coax transition:
6. Two 50 ohm coaxes of different outer conductor diameters (b) are connected together. Observe the S-
parameters.
E3) Coax matching
One 50 ohm coax is connected to another 100 ohm coax. Design a quarter wave matching section between them
for 2.45 GHz. Observe the passband of the S-parameters and explain.

Binomial transformer
Chebyshev transformer
E4) Microstrip line design
Repeat the coaxial experiments with microstrip line. Choose substrate thickness d =1.6 mm and the substrate
material either RT/Duroid or FR4.
