Socratic Circle Reflection on the Questions Relating to The Crucible
For this Socratic circle, I was prepared because I wrote my textual evidence to support
the claims, I made so that I could give my input to the questions being asked. The rate of my
contribution was good, my partner tallied the number of times I spoke and whether it was clear to
understand or not. Although my rate was good, I could have done a better job of speaking up
more and taking the initiative of the conversation. The quality of the feedback I gave back in the
Socratic circle was lacking because of the little nervousness I had. When I spoke, my brain
became clustered and I lost my thought process at times, but that is normal and just calls for
improvement. Personally, I could have improved the flow of communication within the circle by
sharing my opinion earlier so that others would have the chance to either agree or rebuttal the
statement. My goal for the next Socratic circle is to talk more, use more textual evidence, and
reveal deeper meanings of the next topic of discussion.
I would rate my group's preparation greatly because everyone was prepared, and we all
shared our opinions and evidence for the questions. I also rate the quality of the overall
conversation the same for the inner circle because we all elaborated a lot on the questions since
we had our own opinions and perspectives of the topic. The teamwork in our inner circle was
good because we made connections and relations to other people's statements and referred back
to them. The quality of feedback our outer circle gave to our inner circle was not much, we were
blunt with the good parts that they demonstrated in the circle and with the disapproving parts.
Although, most of our people did an amazing job.
Reflection on Content
Through a selection of text, one may grasp a deeper meaning of the idea within the
discussion topic, realize a new perspective of the idea, and understand where the idea originates
from.
In my “imaginary" essay, the main points I bring up will be new revelations so that it
makes people take a different side and perspective. Since it is an “imaginary” essay, I would like
to bring up a topic that represents the tip of the iceberg; a topic with a bigger truth than is told.
The main points I bring up will be of my own experiences so I would have more of a vast range
to choose from.
For my selection of text, it will most likely be of someone imagining or deluding
themselves of something that is there when it’s not. Personally, since I fear the dark, I tend to
imagine monsters or creatures lurking right behind me. It may not be related, but a quote from
Abigail would also relate because she deluded herself by believing there was a relationship
between her and the Proctor when there was not. I also fear to fall from high places, like Abigail
fears of her reputation plummeting and being a tainted girl within the town.
