CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

People in this generation are more dependent on “social media” ,

especially teen-agers. Merriam Webster Dictionary- define “social
media” as forms of electronic communication (such as websites for
social networking and microblogging) through which users create
online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages,
and other content (such as videos). Most of teenagers uses social
media to gain knowledge about the trends in the society today, to let
other people know their status every minute, and to communicate with
strangers and friends online. But the main problem is teenagers
became more dependent on social media to find friends through the
internet even without knowing them in real life. According to Gelo
Gonzales from Rappler, the total number of internet users has grown
from 4.24 billion to 4.39 billion, a growth of 9 percent, since January
2018.A year ago there were 3.19 billion social media users. Now there
are 3.48 billion, representing a 9% growth as well.Of these 3.48 billion
users, 3.26 billion of them use social media on mobile devices, growing
by 10% from the past year.
