How To Assemble A Gyroscope
1.0 INTRODUCTION
A gyroscope is a device consists of a wheel or disk mounted so that it spins rapidly about
an axis to provide a reference direction mainly in navigation system, stabilizers, and automatic
pilots.
Specific tools are required to assemble this gyroscope for MECH 311 Lab. The tools are:

1. The Gyroscope Shaft (Part #31101-Gyroscope Shaft) is aligned with the Gyroscope
2. The shaft and the rotor are pressed together using a Press Fit Machine.
3. The rotor-shaft assembly is aligned with the Gyroscope frame (Part #MECH 311
Frame), where the shaft’s axis is the same as the threaded holes in the frame.
4. The Upper and Lower guide screws (Part #Lower Shaft Guide 91375A199 and Part
#Upper Shaft Guide 91375A199) are screwed into the threaded holes of the frame by
5. Two nuts (2x Part #92671A009) are fastened into the guide screws to secure the
6. Adjust the guide screw depth on both sides to provide a decent fit to allow the rotor-
shaft assembly spins smoothly while not restraining its movement. Use a Wrench to
8. Slide the ring assembly into the slots on the sides of the frame with the holes aligned
9. Align and slide two Rivets (Part #94439A270) into the hole of the ring assembly.
10. Using a Pop Rivet Gun, pop both rivets into the assembly holding the ring and the
frame together.
