1.2 - Decision Making in Educational Systems

2.2.7 - Identify how decisions are made in education systems

In an educational system, there are many ways decisions can be made. From the teachers

making decisions in their classes, principals making decisions for the school, all the way to the

school board making decisions for the district. These meetings are typically attended by the five

members of the school board, as well as the superintendent. Others who attend can be principals,

teachers, or even students. The decisions made here in these meetings affect everyone, so it’s

important to allow everyone to attend and address issues.

Typically, a board meeting begins when the board is “called to order” and then role is

called. This is then followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and an approval of the agenda.

Presentations are then given afterwards by invited attendees on issues and concerns they want to

bring up before the board.
