Same Sex Marriage

The request for approval in the supreme court of Same Sex Marriage was dismissed last
September of 2019.

Same Sex Marriage is defined as the union of two individuals of the same sex in a
martial relationship with a full legal rights and responsibilities given to this contract in a specific
jurisdiction (Ortega P.D, 2016). The practice of homosexual marriage is not a recent event as it
has been around during the Greek and Roman periods. The big issues about homosexuality is
giving people the rights to be open with their relationships by legalizing gay or same sex
marriage. The topic of legalizing same sex marriage is one of the broadest topics and has the
most controversy. Being that all people are qualified for their own opinions and beliefs, their
own personal views on same sex marriage that may be supportive or just degrading to the gay
community. There are numerous amounts of the gay communities. Individuals of the LGBT
community feel as if they are just as equal to those who are not homosexual. Being gay or
lesbian is one’s personal preference. It also seems as if LGBT is becoming stronger and stronger
and more people are supporting the right of LGBT (Jennings K., N.D).

Countries in which same sex marriage is allowed include France, Germany, Malta,
Canada, and the most recent countries are Austria, Taiwan and Ecuador. The Netherlands was
the first country to legalize same sex marriage. As early as the mid 1980s, gay rights
organizations had been acting in the country in the demanding legal recognition of same sex
marriage (World Atlas, 2018) countries in which same sex marriage is allowed. The Philippines is
ranked as one of the most “gay-friendly” community in a 2013 global survey covering 39
countries in which only 17 had majorities accepting homosexuality, titled “The Global Divide on
Homosexuality” the overview directed by the Pew Research Center demonstrated that 73% of
grown-up Filipinos agreed with the statement that homosexuality should be accepted in the
society (Wikipedia, 2019). The main reasons for the high percentage of LGBT acceptance in the
Philippines are the historic point of view of and respect to gender-shifting and non-based
gender roles before the 12th century.
